This matchup was as good as advertised. It was a game that featured similar home field-advantage, a plethora of injuries, reciprocating momentum shifts and two sharpshooting offenses slugging it out until the final whistle. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><strong>Week 14 Los Angeles Rams Takeaways<\/strong><\/h1>\n<h2>Penalties Turn Out To Be Costly<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What seemingly felt like a strength this season, several of Los Angeles\u2019 big plays were derailed by downright unnecessary and unprofessional penalties. With a number of holding calls throughout the game, none was more demoralizing than <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=JohnTr05,JohnTr02&amp;search=Trumaine+Johnson&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trumaine Johnson<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for taunting <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JeffAl00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alshon Jeffery<\/a><\/strong>, following an incomplete pass attempt of third and seven. What should\u2019ve been a challenging field goal for Eagles kicker <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/E\/ElliJa03.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jake Elliott<\/a><\/strong> turned into a Jeffery fourth-down touchdown grab, handing Philadelphia a 31-28 lead. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WentCa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carson Wentz<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnfl.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2017\/12\/10\/carson-wentz-tears-acl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">which could potentially be a torn ACL<\/a> and never got to see the field again. But in the end, he didn&#8217;t need to.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second biggest penalty the Rams caused took place late in the fourth quarter, when <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/E\/EbukSa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Samson Ebukam<\/a><\/strong> was wrongly tagged for leveraging on an Elliot 54-yard field goal attempt. Despite it being good which allowed the Eagles to regain the lead, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/F\/FoleNi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nick Foles<\/a><\/strong> and company consumed another four downs worth of time, ultimately leading LA to lose a strip-sacked ball and regain its following and final position with one second remaining.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Inconsistent Offensive Line<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Rams offensive line needed to play a masterful game for them to pull out a victory against the Eagles. A revamped line that featured the likes of future Hall-of-Famer <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WhitAn20.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andrew Whitworth<\/a><\/strong> and well-respected veteran <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=SullJo24,SullJo21,SullJo22&amp;search=John+Sullivan&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Sullivan<\/a><\/strong> was expected to put out a solid showing against this fierce Eagles defensive front. It didn\u2019t turn out as expected. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BradNi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nigel Bradham<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=RobiPa99,RobiPa20&amp;search=Patrick+Robinson&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Patrick Robinson<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s speed along with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/CoxxFl00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fletcher Cox<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/J\/JernTi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Timmy Jernigan<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s physicality resulted too much for the Rams to handle. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GoffJa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jared Goff<\/a><\/strong> didn\u2019t have enough time to step back and settle inside the pocket, as the Eagles defensive linemen were hitting the corners while cluttering the middle of the pack as well. Eagles defensive coordinator <strong>Jim Schwartz<\/strong> sent numerous blitz packages all throughout the game, which has turned out to be one of Goff\u2019s biggest weaknesses as an NFL signal-caller. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GurlTo01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Todd Gurley<\/a><\/strong> played an exceptional game, accumulating 138 yards of total offense. Despite carrying the ball only 13 times, the third-year running back was contained throughout the final couple of possessions due to the injuries of both Whitworth and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/H\/HaveRo00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rob Havenstein<\/a><\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Jared Goff or Carson Wentz<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The jury is still out on which quarterback was most deserving of last year\u2019s number one overall pick. The game stats will clearly pinpoint Wentz as the overwhelming favorite with his 291 yards and four touchdowns on 23 passes, compared to Goff\u2019s 199 passing yards and two touchdowns. Wentz, unfortunately, exited the game late in the third quarter with an apparent leg injury. The Rams, at that point, were in the midst of a 14-point comeback, which ultimately led to a lead early in the fourth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wentz has had the better season, by far. It was evident today, however, that his overall staff and teammates are undoubtedly more experienced and more talented. Boasting one of football\u2019s best offensive lines, the former North Dakota State quarterback\u2019s game elevated following <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/O\/OgleAl00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alec Ogletree<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s aggravated arm injury, along with the loss of both starting corners, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/W\/WebsKa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kayvon Webster<\/a><\/strong> and Trumaine Johnson. Having two bruising running backs also adds to Wentz\u2019s forte, but that offsets with Gurley\u2019s resurgence this season. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nonetheless, both quarterbacks are still in the midst of their development as football players.
