Actually, it’s been longer than a couple seasons. The Jets have had bad fortune for decades and today at MetLife stadium was no different when the Jets fell to the New England Patriots 24-17. Though the Jets were able to move the ball well and were in the game until the end, the game was clearly a game they could have won.

Week Six New York Jets Takeaways

Josh McCown

If you take away two throws, Josh McCown played a fantastic game. He was extremely mobile in the pocket and constantly delivered the ball to his receivers. The quarterback has exceeded the expectations set before the season started and showed up again today. The touchdown pass to Jeremy Kerley was a perfect throw and couldn’t have been delivered any better. He continuously delivered the ball with touch and led his receivers. Josh McCown matched Tom Brady’s level of play and put Gang Green in a place to win.

Referees

This was horrible. There weren’t many calls but when there were, they went against the Jets. Starting with a non-call on a helmet-to-helmet hit on a Jets receiver that was not called. The referees also called defensive pass interference on rookie Jamal Adams that set up a Patriots touchdown in the first half. That call easily could have gone against Rob Gronkowski or been a non-call because sometimes you just have to let the kids play.

However, the highlight of the referees’ afternoon was perhaps the worst call in recent memory. The Jets were down 24-14 when Austin Seferian-Jenkins caught the ball on the left sideline. Jenkins reached for the pylon to put the Jets within three. The referees’ signal for a touchdown and then it went to New York for a review. That is when it all changed and the referees took control.

They ruled that the Seferian-Jenkins lost control of the ball and the ball fumbled out of bounds. The Patriots took over control at their own 20 and the Jets’ drive came away with no points. Many went to Twitter to proclaim the call as one of the worst, if not the worst, that they’ve ever seen.

Jets Run Defense

It almost came as a surprise that the Patriots didn’t continue to pound the ball down the Jets throat. It seemed like every time the Patriots ran it up the middle it was for at least an eight-yard gain. With the strong run game came the ability to dominate time of possession and set up play action for Brady, who just happens to be one of the best quarterbacks of all time.

The play action led to most of Gronkowski’s production and a big reason the Jets fell behind in the second half. There were many positives the Jets could take away from this loss, but the run game continues to be their Achilles heel. They need to fix it and they need to fix it soon.

Main Image:

Embed from Getty Images

The Week Six New York Jets Takeaways from their loss to the Patriots features Josh McCown, the referees, and the Jets Run Defense.

[54,6
1452,756,61,2691,593,38,218,40,331
post-32168","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-editorials","category-jets","tag-aaron-colvin","tag-austin-seferian-jenkins","tag-football","tag-jermaine-kearse","tag-josh-mccown","tag-new-england-patriots","tag-new-york-jets","tag-nfl","tag-tom-brady
["GET
