They got the result they wanted, taking the victory and moving to 3-2 and near the top of the division. Though the defense still has to work on playing better as a unit, the team is starting to come together more and more each week.

Week Five New York Jets Takeaways

Jermaine Kearse

Before the season started the Jets traded away Sheldon Richardson for Jermaine Kearse and a second-round pick. Kearse had some good years but has really developed into a number one receiver in New York. He has followed an impressive 2017 campaign by adding four receptions for 38 yards and a touchdown today against Cleveland. Having someone that can both perform and mentor the younger receivers will be invaluable moving forward. He has been a security blanket for quarterback Josh McCown and is a big reason the Jets have a record above .500.

Secondary

Though it was against the Browns and their struggles at quarterback, the Jets young secondary stepped up again today. They limited the Browns to less than 200 passing yards and were able to record two interceptions. The Jets secondary is much improved compared to last year and that’s in large part thanks to safeties’ Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye. Maye and cornerback Morris Claiborne both recorded interceptions today and both have helped elevate the Jets secondary this season. The secondary’s performance today was a big reason the Jets are sitting at 3-2. They will face their biggest test next week when the Patriots come to town.

Are the Jets For Real?

Who would have expected this? There were a lot of jokes that if the Jets won more than three or four games Todd Bowles would be up for coach of the year. Well, now the Jets are above .500 and 3-2 and will face the 3-2 Patriots next week at home. Though the Jets wins have come against teams near the bottom of the league, they count as much as a win against a top team. When the Jets cut Eric Decker and David Harris so many people thought the tank was full steam ahead. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case at all. The Jets’ rookies have been huge contributors and the team has been playing fundamental football. All eyes will be on the Jets next week where fans and analysts can tune in to see if Gang Green is legit.

Embed from Getty Images

The New York Jets Takeaways from this week include involving reciever Jermain Kearse, the Jets Secondary and if the Jets are for real.

[54,6
1083,558,61,2691,2147,990,7287,672
post-31840","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-editorials","category-jets","tag-david-harris","tag-eric-decker","tag-football","tag-jermaine-kearse","tag-marcus-maye","tag-morris-claiborne","tag-new-york-jets-roster","tag-sheldon-richardson
["GET
