With training camp set to begin and preseason coming not long after, this is the time of year when unknown commodities have a chance to stand out and make a name for themselves. Star players are important to have on any team, but the players drafted in later rounds who are young and hungry are the ones who often determine how good the team can be. We will be covering some Jaguars players to watch for during training camp and the three preseason games.<\/p>\n

Players to Watch For in Training Camp and Preseason<\/h2>\n

Jalen Huskey<\/h3>\n

In the third round of the 2025 draft<\/a>, the Jaguars selected safety Jalen Huskey. Rookie Caleb Ransaw<\/a> was drafted in the third round in the previous draft and suffered a season-ending injury during training camp. With training camp about to begin, Huskey has been placed above Ransaw on the depth chart.<\/p>\n

Antonio Johnson<\/a> is listed as the team’s starting free safety, but there will be a battle for who takes the backup spot. With both players yet to take regular-season snaps, they will both have an equal opportunity to take that spot. The next month will determine who becomes the backup free safety heading into 2026.<\/p>\n

Ventrell Miller<\/h3>\n

After the departure of Devin Lloyd in free agency, Ventrell Miller<\/a> is set to take his place in 2026. Miller has played sparingly through his first two seasons, but has not had the opportunities to truly showcase his potential. Heading into training camp, this will be the first time he will get the starting reps and have a chance to prove himself.<\/p>\n

While the preseason and training camp are hardly indicators of what to expect in the regular season, we could see how he handles things such as communication, pre-snap reads, and open-field tackling.<\/p>\n

Jack Kiser<\/h3>\n

Jack Kiser<\/a> was drafted in the fourth round by the Jaguars in 2025, but played just 43 snaps. One year later, he is listed as the starting Sam linebacker and will likely split reps with Dennis Gardeck<\/a>. Kiser will have a lot to prove with next to no playing experience to his name. In college, he was a great tackler, leading the independent conference with 55 solo tackles in 2025 and totaling 16 tackles for loss in his collegiate career.<\/p>\n

Raquan Lane III<\/h3>\n

Much like Jack Kiser, Raquan Lane III was drafted in 2025, but played very little during the season. Fast forward a year later, and he is second on the depth chart behind veteran safety Eric Murray. Lane likely won’t overtake Murray in the offseason, but Murray has struggled to stay healthy consistently, and now that he is entering his ninth season in the NFL, Lane may get some opportunities in the regular season.<\/p>\n

Unlike Jalen Huskey, who is sitting behind a player coming off a fantastic season, Murray had plenty of ups and downs in 2025. This is the time when Lane will receive the most reps, and this could be a chance for Lane to make a big impression and earn more snaps as we approach the regular season.<\/p>\n
