Washington has a huge logjam problem in their RB room ever since they signed Rachaad White and Ford to deals via free agency. The Commanders continued to add more talent, drafting Kaytron Allen this year while still having Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Jeremy McNichols in the fold. Now, the team might’ve done itself a disservice by adding too many running backs throughout the offseason, and one RB could be out the door before the regular season.

Croskey-Merritt and White are pretty much a lock for this offensive roster as they’ll likely share snaps. It’s hard to envision the Commanders moving Allen since he’s considered a highly-touted rookie and the team would probably rather see how he could fit into this scheme. With McNichols, they’ve seen a lot from him, but he’s too versatile, and many teams will probably pick him up fast due to his special teams abilities, too.

It could come down between the former Brown and McNichols, but the Commanders can’t afford McNichols due to his leadership and experience.

Main Photo: Ken Blaze-Imagn Images

Commanders Rumors: $1.2M Veteran May Be Cut in Massive Logjam

Training Camp Battle

The only way to settle the RB drama is to compete. The Commanders are expected to participate in their first official training camp session next week after the rookies report it’s own in the next few days. However, nobody should be surprised if McNichols wins the job here. He’s been here long enough that Ford is unable to muster a game plan to convince the team to allow him to stay on the starting roster.

It won’t be due to his inabilities, but the Commanders don’t have enough room. Here are three teams that could wait for the veteran RB once he’s a free agent again.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBPlfMhwXS" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 6240px; aspect-ratio: 6240/3512;" ></smartframe-embed>

3. Baltimore Ravens

After allowing Keaton Mitchell to walk in free agency, the Baltimore Ravens haven’t entertained the idea of signing a low-stakes veteran RB, but they should. Derrick Henry is still one of the best downhill runners in the league, but has had a few inconsistency issues throughout the 2025 campaign. Ford won’t be the next Henry, but he’d be an excellent addition to this running game to pulverize the opposing defenders.

With Justice Hill being more of a screen-play type of RB, Henry and the former Brown paired together just sounds like a scary wrecking ball to face.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOB164bVYsJ" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 6000px; aspect-ratio: 6000/4000;" ></smartframe-embed>

2. Dallas Cowboys

Despite signing Javonte Williams to a new deal, the RB backup room in Dallas is still questionable. Between Jaydon Blue, Malik Davis and Phil Mafah, this is probably one of the most unmotivating rooms for Williams. Blue is locked in as the presumptive RB2, but the team must figure out how Davis and Mafah can fare in training camp. Dallas would probably be better off signing Ford if he’s available and letting Davis and Mafah ride the practice squad for the entire 2026 campaign.

The former Brown isn’t going to blow over and record more than 500 rushing yards, but he’d likely be a physical asset for Dallas needing to fight for first down, especially near the end zone.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBh0Vaoiiw" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 6240px; aspect-ratio: 6240/3512;" ></smartframe-embed>

1. Seattle Seahawks

After losing Kenneth Walker to Kansas City this offseason, the Seattle Seahawks heavily invested in its RB room, signing Emanuel Wilson and drafting Jadarian Price. Seattle is monitoring Zach Charbonnett’s status for Week 1, but he’s expected to be ready to go for the start of the 2026 season. Should Charbonnett miss more time, it might be sensible to add Ford in the mix.

Price is still adjusting to the league, while it’ll come down to Wilson and an unproven George Holani. Wilson is more of a backup than he is a starter, so signing a veteran like the former Brown makes sense here to rotate the snaps.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBmaCDW2lk" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 6000px; aspect-ratio: 6000/4000;" ></smartframe-embed>

After overhauling the entire running back room this offseason, the latest Washington Commanders rumors suggest they could release a top veteran.

<smartframe-embed customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOByf4x3fpc" style="width: 100%;max-width: 4053px;aspect-ratio: 4053/2702"></smartframe-embed>
[36,10,19,6431,32,8896
7723,7422,596,33283,7580,9056,9103,32193,34874,246,5812,7638,7282,8996
post-293274","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-news","category-ravens","category-cowboys","category-nfl-teams","category-seahawks","category-washington-commanders","tag-baltimore-ravens-news","tag-dallas-cowboys-news","tag-derrick-henry","tag-jacory-croskey-merritt","tag-javonte-williams","tag-jerome-ford","tag-kenneth-walker-iii","tag-lastest-nfl-news","tag-nfl-cut","tag-nfl-news","tag-nfl-rumors","tag-ravens-featured","tag-seattle-seahawks-news","tag-washington-commanders-news
["GET
