Our <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/2017\/06\/24\/looking-to-2017-100-fantasy-football-facts-volume-ii\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">second volume was published in July,<\/a> and featured the post NFL draft news.<\/p>\n<p>Now that the month of September has begun, and the 53-man rosters and depth charts are set, there is no better time to publish our third and final installment of \u201c100 Fantasy Football Facts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These are 100\u00a0completely true facts that will surprise and confuse <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/category\/fantasy\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fantasy football<\/a> fanatics. The facts may or may not lead to the obvious conclusion, but the goal is to keep your fantasy football mind racing. It\u2019s one thing to have a grasp of analytics, but it\u2019s another thing entirely to use those numbers as building blocks to some higher truth.<\/p>\n<p>The question remains open for debate: does the data lead to the proper conclusion?<\/p>\n<p>Here are 100 facts to give dedicated fantasy football junkies something to chew over as the NFL season begins.<\/p>\n<p>(Statistical information was taken from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.playerprofiler.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PlayerProfiler<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fftoday.com\/stats\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FFtoday<\/a>).<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Looking to 2017: 100 Fantasy Football Facts-Volume III<\/strong><\/h1>\n<h3>Superstar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GrahJi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jimmy Graham<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>1. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/seahawks\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seattle Seahawks<\/a> tight end <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GrahJi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jimmy Graham<\/a><\/strong> finished third among all NFL tight ends with 923 receiving yards last season.<\/p>\n<p>2. Graham did that despite ranking only seventh among all tight ends with 96 targets.<\/p>\n<p>3. He also ranked second among all tight ends with an 85.7 percent contested catch rate.<\/p>\n<p>4. <strong>Josh Hermsmayer<\/strong> at RotoViz explains why <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rotoworld.com\/articles\/nfl\/69265\/446\/why-receiver-air-yards-matter?pg=1\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">air yards are a great predictor of fantasy points<\/a>. Air yards, he explains, are an almost pure measure of quarterback and coaching intent. In essence, Hermsmayer states that air yards illustrate who the quarterback and coaching staff want to get the ball to.<\/p>\n<p>5. Graham ranked second among all tight ends in 2016 with 604 air yards and 6.5 air yards per target.<\/p>\n<p>6. In the red zone, Graham only received a modest 26.3 percent target share, and only totaled eight red zone receptions (13th among tight ends).<\/p>\n<p>7. In fact, as per <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sharpfootballanalysis.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Warren Sharp<\/a><\/strong>, of the 71 offensive plays Seattle ran inside the ten yard line, Graham was only targeted on four of them.<\/p>\n<p>8. Wide receiver <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/K\/KearJe01.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jermaine Kearse<\/a> <\/strong>had 15 red zone targets last season.\u00a0 He is now a member of the New York Jets.<\/p>\n<p>9. Kansas City tight end <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/K\/KelcTr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Travis Kelce<\/strong><\/a> had 20 more receptions and 21 more targets than Graham last season.<\/p>\n<p>10. Yet, if Graham just caught two more touchdowns, he would have been the number one standard scoring fantasy tight end, surpassing Kelce.<\/p>\n<p>11. Jimmy Graham is in the last year of a four-year, $40 million contract.<\/p>\n<h3>Putting It Blountly<\/h3>\n<p>12. \u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BlouLe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LeGarrette Blount<\/a><\/strong> has 24 rushing touchdowns over the last two seasons, tied with Arizona&#8217;s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=JohnDa05,JohnDa08&amp;search=David+Johnson&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Johnson<\/a><\/strong> for most in the NFL.<\/p>\n<p>13. \u00a0Blount played 49 games for the New England Patriots. He averaged 13.8 rushing attempts, 59.5 rushing yards, and 0.69 touchdowns per game.<\/p>\n<p>14. \u00a0The 30-year-old has played 51 games for teams other than New England (Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh). He has averaged 9.6 rushing attempts, 43.2 yards, and 0.29 touchdowns per game with those teams.<\/p>\n<p>15. \u00a0As per <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/evansilva\/status\/897610146112778240\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Evan Silva<\/a><\/strong>, Blount carried an NFL high 121 times from the I-formation with a fullback in front of him.<\/p>\n<p>16. \u00a0The Philadelphia Eagles do not have a fullback <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ourlads.com\/nfldepthcharts\/depthchart\/PHI\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">on their current roster<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>17. The Eagles loved using 12 personnel (1 RB, 2 TE). They used it more than any other team in the NFL. When they lined up in that formation, they passed the ball almost as much as when they only had one tight end on the field. (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sharpfootballanalysis.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SharpFootballAnalytics<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>18. Last year&#8217;s lead running back\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/M\/MathRy00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan Mathews<\/a> <\/strong>only averaged 7.72 PPR fantasy points per game when Philadelphia faced a top 12 rushing defense.<\/p>\n<p>19. In the 66 NFL games he has started, Mathews has 179 receptions for an average of 2.71 receptions per game.<\/p>\n<p>20. In the games against top 12 rushing defenses, Mathews only averaged 0.6 receptions per game.<\/p>\n<p>21. \u00a0Over the 43 career games Blount has started, he has only totaled 46 receptions for an average of 1.07 receptions per game.<\/p>\n<p>22. Last season, the Eagles faced the eighth most difficult schedule of run defenses.<\/p>\n<p>23. This season, the Eagles face the third most difficult schedule of run defenses.<\/p>\n<p>24. \u00a0Based off last year&#8217;s stats, the Eagles will face the second, third, fifth, and seventh best run defenses against opposing fantasy running backs over the last seven weeks.<\/p>\n<p>25. \u00a0Four of those games will be on the road including a brutal three-week stretch with road games against Seattle, the Rams, and the Giants during weeks 13, 14, and 15.<\/p>\n<h3>As the Crow Flies<\/h3>\n<p>26. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/browns\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cleveland Browns<\/a> running back <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/CrowIs00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Isaiah Crowell<\/a><\/strong> finished 15th among all running backs with 944 rushing yards last season.<\/p>\n<p>27. \u00a0Crowell ran behind the 17th best offensive line per run blocking efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>28. \u00a0Despite average blocking, Crowell had 13 runs of 15 yards or more which ranked seventh among all running backs.<\/p>\n<p>29. The Browns spent over $100 million in the offseason on their offensive line. They signed <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/bengals\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cincinnati Bengals<\/a> guard <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/Z\/ZeitKe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kevin Zeitler<\/a> <\/strong>to a <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnfl.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2017\/03\/09\/kevin-zeitler-sign-cleveland-browns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">five-year, $60 million contract<\/a>. Zeitler rated as the top offensive guard available in free agency.<\/p>\n<p>30. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnfl.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2017\/03\/09\/jc-tretter-signs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cleveland also signed<\/a> center <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/T\/TretJC00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">J.C. Tretter<\/a><\/strong> from Green Bay, and gave guard<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BitoJo00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joel Bitonio<\/a><\/strong> a huge extension (five years, $51 million).<\/p>\n<p>31. \u00a0In 2017, the Browns had the second best offensive line as per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.profootballfocus.com\/news\/pro-ranking-all-32-offensive-line-units-heading-into-the-2017-season\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ProFootballFocus<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>32. \u00a0The Browns ranked second to last in the league with 350 team rushing attempts last year.<\/p>\n<p>33. \u00a0Through the first four weeks of the 2016 season, Crowell produced three top 16 fantasy running back weeks in <em>PPR<\/em> formats.<\/p>\n<p>34. \u00a0Crowell was on pace for 1,756 total yards and 12 total touchdowns.<\/p>\n<p>35. \u00a0He also ranked 18th among all running backs with 40 receptions and was second among all running backs with 104 pass blocking snaps. (<a href=\"https:\/\/grades.profootballfocus.com\/#\/ratings\/positions\/show\/HB\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ProFootballFocus<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>36. \u00a0Back in 2014, <strong>Joe Redemann<\/strong> at NumberFire proved <a href=\"https:\/\/www.numberfire.com\/nfl\/news\/2399\/do-rushing-quarterbacks-help-running-back-success\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">there is a relationship<\/a> between quarterback rushing and the rushing value of their respective running back.<\/p>\n<p>37. \u00a0In two years at Notre Dame, <a href=\"https:\/\/lwosonnfl.ms.lastwordonsports.com\/2017\/04\/01\/deshone-kizer-2017-nfl-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>DeShone Kizer<\/strong><\/a> rushed for almost 1,000 yards and 18 touchdowns.<\/p>\n<p>38. \u00a0The Browns scored the second fewest points of any team last year. Their 264 points only finished ahead of the 224 put up by the Los Angeles Rams.<\/p>\n<p>39. \u00a0Despite the limited attempts, Crowell did convert five of his nine rushing attempts inside the five yard line to touchdowns.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GinnTe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ted Ginn<\/a> Jr. On The Bayou<\/h3>\n<p>40. \u00a0Over the last two seasons, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/G\/GinnTe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ted Ginn<\/a> Jr.<\/strong> has averaged 96 targets per season. He is averaging 49 receptions and 745.5 yards per season.<\/p>\n<p>41. \u00a0Ginn&#8217;s quarterback those two seasons was Carolina quarterback<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=NewtCa00,NewtCa20&amp;search=Cam+Newton&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cam Newton,\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>whose completion percentage in those seasons has been 59.8 and 52.9 percent respectively.<\/p>\n<p>42.\u00a0 Currently, his quarterback in New Orleans is<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BreeDr00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Drew Brees<\/a><\/strong>. Over the last 13 seasons, Brees has never had a completion percentage below 63 percent. Over the past four seasons, Brees has never finished the season with less than a 68.3 percent completion percentage.<\/p>\n<p>43. \u00a0Ginn&#8217;s 4.43 40-yard dash speed is an advantage with deep ball targets.<\/p>\n<p>44. In 2016, Newton ranked ninth in deep ball attempts but only 27th in deep ball completion percentage (26.3 percent).<\/p>\n<p>45. \u00a0In 2016, Brees ranked 11th in deep ball attempts but first in deep ball completion percentage (51.4 percent).<\/p>\n<p>46. \u00a0Saints wide receiver <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/S\/SneaWi00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Willie Snead<\/a> <\/strong>had 104 targets last season.<\/p>\n<p>47. \u00a0Snead is suspended for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nola.com\/saints\/index.ssf\/2017\/09\/willie_snead_suspended.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the first three games of the season<\/a> due to an offseason DUI.<\/p>\n<p>48. \u00a0Ginn is currently starting in two wide receiver sets for New Orleans in week one.<\/p>\n<p>49. \u00a0In 2016, the Saints faced the third most difficult schedule of defenses, as well as the third most difficult schedule of pass defenses.<\/p>\n<p>50. \u00a0In 2017, the Saints face the fifth easiest schedule of defenses.<\/p>\n<p>51. \u00a0New Orleans is projected to be an underdog in their first four games of the season: \u00a0at Minnesota, home vs New England, at Carolina, and at Miami.<\/p>\n<p>52. \u00a0However, in weeks 11-15, the Saints are favored in four games and play Atlanta in a dome in week 14.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BryaMa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Martavis Bryant<\/a>? \u00a0Only in Best Ball<\/h3>\n<p>53. \u00a0In 2014, Pittsburgh wide receiver<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/B\/BryaMa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Martavis Bryant<\/a><\/strong> was inactive for the first six weeks of the season after a poor preseason and an A\/C joint sprain.<\/p>\n<p>54. \u00a0From week six through week 13, Bryant caught seven touchdown passes. His 21.1 yards per reception was first among all NFL wide receivers.<\/p>\n<p>55. In 2015, Bryant was suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the NFL&#8217;s substance abuse policy. After his return in week six, Bryant again caught seven touchdown passes over the remainder of the season.<\/p>\n<p>56. \u00a0In 2016, Bryant was suspended for the entire season for again violating the league&#8217;s substance abuse policy.<\/p>\n<p>57.\u00a0 <strong>Charlie Kleinheksel<\/strong> of RotoViz took a look at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rotoworld.com\/articles\/nfl\/70440\/446\/how-to-value-suspensions\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the impact of suspensions on the career length of NFL players<\/a>. He stated that a player suspended for substance abuse will play on average just eight more NFL games in his career, with a 50 percent chance of being suspended again. There is no history of a player having NFL success after multiple substance abuse suspensions.<\/p>\n<p>58. \u00a0Over his two seasons, there are 11 games in which Martavis Bryant has caught at least one touchdown pass. In those games he has averaged 3.73 receptions, 85.9 yards, and 1.3 touchdowns.<\/p>\n<p>59. \u00a0There have also been ten games where Martavis Bryant has <em>not<\/em> caught a touchdown pass. In those games, he is averaging 3.5 receptions and 36.9 receiving yards. (<a href=\"http:\/\/rotoviz.com\/game-splits\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RotoViz<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>60. When Bryant catches a touchdown he averages 20.1 PPR fantasy points per game. When he doesn&#8217;t catch a touchdown Bryant averages 8.1 PPR fantasy points per game.<\/p>\n<p>61. \u00a0According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fantasypros.com\/nfl\/reports\/leaders\/ppr-wr.php?year=2016\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FantasyPros<\/a>, Bryant&#8217;s 20.1 PPR fantasy point average would rank him as the WR2 last season. \u00a0His 8.1 PPR fantasy average would rank 80th, tied with<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AyerDe00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Demarcus Ayers,<\/a> <\/strong>who failed to make the Steelers 53-man roster this year.<\/p>\n<h3>Wiping Out the Slot<\/h3>\n<p>62. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/nfl-teams\/redskins\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Washington Redskins<\/a> wide receiver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/C\/CrowJa00.htm?utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Jamison Crowder<\/strong><\/a> had 67 receptions, 847 yards, and seven touchdowns last season.<\/p>\n<p>63. \u00a0Crowder was one of the most efficient wide receivers in the NFL, ranking 15th at the position with a +17.8 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.playerprofiler.com\/terms-glossary\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Production Premium.<\/a> \u00a0This measures a player&#8217;s productivity across all league-average situations, discounting non-standard situations such as two minute drill and garbage time.<\/p>\n<p>64. \u00a0He also was fifth among all wide receivers with a 55.7 percent slot rate in three and four wide receiver sets.<\/p>\n<p>65.
