And the laundry list of ailments Mayfield battled might shock you.<\/p>\n<h2>Netflix\u2019s \u201cQuarterback\u201d Reveals Shocking Injuries Baker Mayfield Played Through In 2025<\/h2>\n<p>On Tuesday, Netflix released its seven-episode docuseries featuring behind-the-scenes access to the 2025 seasons of four quarterbacks: Baker Mayfield, the Commanders\u2019 Jayden Daniels, the Titans\u2019 Cam Ward, and the Browns\u2019 Joe Flacco.<\/p>\n<p>While Mayfield and his family had quite a few standout moments \u2014 including the love story between him and his wife, Emily, the couple finding out the gender of their second child, Maverick, and behind-the-scenes insight into several moments from Mayfield\u2019s 2025 season \u2014 the biggest talking point from the docuseries was the list of injuries Mayfield played through.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In terms of injury news, Baker Mayfield dealt with a sprained MCL and PCL for most of the season, starting in Houston Week 2. <\/p>\n<p>He also had a bone bruise in that Houston game which was aggravated against the Lions. <\/p>\n<p>On a scale of 1-10, the knee pain was a 7 around the Patriots\u2026 <a  href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/NAi7ZPddAq\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/NAi7ZPddAq<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Evan Closky (@ECloskyWTSP) <a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ECloskyWTSP\/status\/2076500990216266026?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">July 13, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Mayfield sprained his MCL and PCL in Week 2 against the Texans and dealt with knee pain for most of the season. A mild MCL sprain usually causes players to miss one to three weeks, while a mild PCL sprain often takes three to six weeks to recover from.<\/p>\n<p>Despite that, Mayfield did not miss a start. In fact, he has started all 51 possible games since joining the Bucs in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>He also suffered a gruesome tendon injury in his biceps during Week 3 against the Jets. He summed up his mentality perfectly during the docuseries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPain is miserable, but toughness shows how bad you want something,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"max-width: px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBpyi5cxzu\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4504px; aspect-ratio: 4504\/3003;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p>\n<h3>What this means for Mayfield in 2026<\/h3>\n<p>The public revelation of Mayfield\u2019s injuries adds another layer to his contract negotiations with the Buccaneers. In June, Mayfield revealed that his representatives and the Bucs were \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2026\/06\/05\/baker-mayfields-contract\/\" target=\"_self\">\u201cnowhere close\u201d to agreeing on terms for a contract extension. <\/a>Mayfield is entering the final year of the three-year, $100 million contract he signed after the 2023 season.<\/p>\n<p>It was later reported by ESPN\u2019s Jeremy Fowler that <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2026\/06\/30\/baker-mayfields-contract-details\/\" target=\"_self\">Mayfield\u2019s camp is seeking more than $50 million annually<\/a> in his next contract, which would place him among the group of quarterbacks earning at least $50 million per season.<\/p>\n<p>The injuries also provide more context for what was Mayfield\u2019s least productive season as the Bucs\u2019 starter. His 3,693 passing yards, 26 touchdown passes, and 63.2% completion percentage were all his lowest totals during his Tampa Bay tenure. He also had seven games with fewer than 200 passing yards in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>While the Bucs already knew about the injuries, the public reveal offers additional insight into how the organization may view the contract negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>Tampa Bay could be more inclined to commit to Mayfield long term if it believes the injuries significantly contributed to his struggles in 2025. Just one season earlier, Mayfield ranked among the NFL\u2019s top five in passing yards, passing touchdowns, completion percentage, and passer rating.<\/p>\n<p>Mayfield has also stated that he will not negotiate a contract extension once training camp begins. Veterans report July 28, giving both sides just under two weeks to reach an agreement.<\/p>\n<p>No matter what happens over the next couple of weeks with Mayfield\u2019s contract, there is little doubt he is one of the toughest players in the NFL. He has shown that he is willing to put the team over himself on multiple occasions in his career.
