In 2025, Harrison graded 34th out of 89 qualified tackles and showed promise as a pass blocker. In the offseason, the Jaguars picked up his fifth-year option for the 2027 season, counting $19 million against the cap.

Even though he will have more time to make a case for a long-term extension, the Jaguars are under tight financial restraints, and Harrison will have to stand out from his peers to receive the contract he desires.

What is Anton Harrison’s Future?

The Jaguars have shown they are willing to retain their talent at premium positions, paying defensive back Montaric Brown and tight end Brenton Strange this offseason. Parker Washington is expected to be next in line after a breakout season in 2025, and Antonio Johnson will have a case to be taken seriously as well.

The competition makes it more difficult for Harrison to get a long-term extension. As of right now, the Jaguars are slated to be $16.4 million over the cap in 2027. If other players get extensions first, Harrison could be left out of the equation. While he is under contract through the 2027 season, his play has not yet warranted a contract worth tight-roping the cap.

What can Harrison do?

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBwjhImLIE" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3399px; aspect-ratio: 3399/2550;" ></smartframe-embed>

In 2025, Harrison was graded 24th among 89 tackles in pass protection, allowing just one sack and three quarterback hits. As a pass blocker, he has made significant strides. In other areas, however, it has been more of a sudden struggle.

As a run blocker, Harrison graded 48th out of 89 tackles and racked up six penalties. Through three years, Harrison has totaled 15 penalties, with eight of them being holding penalties. These are two areas that need big improvements.

The Jaguars’ rushing attack was one of the worst in the league in 2025, and was the most penalized team for a majority of the season. While Harrison doesn’t take all the blame, the running game and untimely penalties significantly hampered the offense for large stretches, and Harrison did not help in these areas.

At times, his physicality has been lackluster, getting beat at the point of attack and struggling to retake control of the rep. For Harrison to justify being paid long-term money, his physicality has to be a point of emphasis moving forward. If he can cut down on the penalties and be a contributor in the running game, he could give the Jaguars no choice but to pay him what he desires.

So far, Harrison has been an effective player for the Jaguars and has improved every season, but it has been at a slower rate, and there is still a lot of room for improvement. As we talked about before, the Jaguars are in a tight cap situation, and a stagnation in play could see him playing out his fifth-year option and looking for a new team in free agency for a lower price than he expects.

The next two seasons will be incredibly important for his career, and he will have to take major strides for the Jaguars front office to feel confident in handing him a long-term contract.

Main Image: Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

What is the future of Anton Harrison, whom the Jacksonville Jaguars drafted 27th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft?

[36,13,6431
9647,9936,7335,34155
post-289919","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-news","category-jaguars","category-nfl-teams","tag-anton-harrison","tag-brenton-strange","tag-jacksonville-jaguars-news","tag-montaric-brown
["GET
