But can he later go down as one of the top 10 greatest tight ends in NFL history?

Yes, that’s a very bold question, seeing that Warren only has one season under his belt. However, he certainly has the potential to become a legendary pass-catcher if he stays healthy and continues to improve his game.

Colts Tight End Tyler Warren Could Become One of the Top-10 Greatest Players at His Position

His Career Thus Far

Tyler Warren attended Atlee High School in Mechanicsville, Virginia. He played football, basketball, and baseball. Warren, the school’s starting quarterback, passed for 1,149 yards and 14 touchdowns as a senior. He also rushed for 677 yards and 10 touchdowns. Initially committing to play at Virginia Tech, he ultimately chose Penn State.

Warren only recorded 49 receptions during his first four years with the Nittany Lions. However, he broke out during his final season, emerging as one of the best tight ends in the country. The Virginia native caught 104 passes for 1,233 yards and eight touchdowns. Warren also had 197 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground. As a result, he won the John Mackey Award and was named Big Ten Tight End of the Year.

Indianapolis then selected Warren with the 14th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Colts tight end got off to a strong start as a rookie last season. Warren caught four passes for 79 yards in a Week 2 win over the Denver Broncos. As a result, he was named the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week. Later in an overtime win over the Atlanta Falcons, he had eight receptions and 99 receiving yards, which were both career-highs.

Warren became the first Colts rookie since running back Jonathan Taylor to have a touchdown in four consecutive games (Weeks 4-7). He started all 17 games and finished the 2025 season with 76 receptions for 817 yards and four touchdowns. Leading all NFL rookie tight ends in receiving yards, Warren became the 18th rookie tight end in history to be named to the Pro Bowl.

Greatest Tight Ends in History

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBdQt2MEX8" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2134px; aspect-ratio: 2134/3200;" ></smartframe-embed>

Who are the 10 greatest tight ends in NFL history? Everyone’s list is different, but Tony Gonzalez has to be a part of it. Before Travis Kelce was doing his thing with the Kansas City Chiefs, Gonzalez was “The Man” for the franchise.

No tight end in history has more receiving yards (15,127) or receptions (1,325) than Gonzalez. The Hall of Famer made 10 All-Pro teams and earned 14 Pro Bowl selections during his 17-year career with the Chiefs and Falcons.

Kelce is also someone who has to be included in a “Greatest Tight Ends” list. The 11-time Pro Bowler passed Gonzalez as the Chiefs’ all-time leader in every receiving category. He also ranks in the top five among tight ends in NFL history in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. And oh yeah, he has three Super Bowl rings.

Rob Gronkowski is another name that can’t be ignored. Teaming up with quarterback Tom Brady, he won three Super Bowls with the New England Patriots and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Other top-10 tight end candidates include guys like Antonio Gates, Shannon Sharpe, and Mike Ditka.

Will the Colts Tight End Get the Job Done?

It was a wacky 2025 season for the Colts. The team started out looking like a legitimate Super Bowl contender before losing the final seven games and missing the playoffs. Tyler Warren was one of the few bright spots for Indy, becoming the best Colts’ tight end the team has employed for quite some time.

Indianapolis re-signed quarterback Daniel Jones this offseason. The former Duke star looked great last season before suffering an Achilles injury. If Jones returns to form, he can help Warren’s development at least for a few years.

When it’s all said and done, will Warren be considered one of the NFL’s top-10 tight ends of all time? Anything is possible, but he has a long way to go before that happens. The talent is definitely there, though. Again, he must avoid the injury bug and continue to get better.

Main Image: Mykal McEldowney/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

Indianapolis Colts tight end Tyler Warren has the potential to become one of the greatest players at his position.

[36,12,6431
7800,400,2636,339,33015
post-289682","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-news","category-colts","category-nfl-teams","tag-indianapolis-colts-news","tag-rob-gronkowski","tag-tony-gonzalez","tag-travis-kelce","tag-tyler-warren
["GET
