He comes into the year with first-round buzz. Does the tape live up to this billing?<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" style=\"max-width: px\"><smartframe-embed class=\"smartframe_wp_element\" customer-id=\"b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf\" image-id=\"WmOBHEbFGU4C\" style=\"width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4928px; aspect-ratio: 4928\/3280;\" ><\/smartframe-embed><\/p>\n<h2>Will Echoles 2027 NFL Draft Early Scouting Report<\/h2>\n<h3>Measurables<\/h3>\n<p>Height: 6\u20193\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Weight: 315 lbs<\/p>\n<h3>Statistics<\/h3>\n<p>2025: 68 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, and five sacks.<\/p>\n<p>2024: Nine tackles, two tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks.<\/p>\n<h3>The Tape<\/h3>\n<p>Games Watched: LSU, at Georgia (regular season), and Miami (playoffs).<\/p>\n<h3>Strengths<\/h3>\n<p>Echoles has experience lining up in a variety of positions. He will play over the face of an offensive lineman and two-gap, or in the A or B gaps. He projects best at the zero or one techniques. Echoles has active feet; he\u2019s always keeping them moving, and coupled with his strength, it means he can consistently get push.<\/p>\n<p>Echoles has heavy hands and packs a strong initial punch. He has good initial hand use, displaying a powerful rip move to win early.<\/p>\n<p>Echoles can also drop his hips to anchor effectively if he\u2019s asked to fill the old school nose tackle space eater role. He is much more than that, though, and that\u2019s exciting.<\/p>\n<h3>Areas to Improve<\/h3>\n<p>Echoles plays a large number of snaps.\u00a0 When he gets tired, his first movement is straight up. This means he\u2019s a lot less effective. If plays are designed to go the other way, he\u2019s not always aware, and he\u2019s then out of plays. This isn\u2019t always the case, though, and we can expect further improvement with experience.<\/p>\n<p>Echoles likes to use a swim move as a pass rusher, which is not always effective. His bull rush is better at this stage, and he\u2019ll need to continue to develop nuance and counters as a pass rusher.<\/p>\n<p>There are a few too many missed tackles on the tape. He\u2019s enthusiastic, but he is a little out of control at times as a tackler. Echoles will leave his feet, so he just needs to make a slight adjustment. He\u2019s not the most athletic outside of a short area, so it could well be that he knows he has to make tackles in that short area and will leave his feet in an attempt to make the play.<\/p>\n<h3>Key Tests in 2026<\/h3>\n<p>Ole Miss fans have September 19 circled in red, as former Head Coach Lane Kiffin makes a quick return to Oxford. This will also be a test for Echoles against a good <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/collegefootball\/category\/sec\/lsu-tigers\/\" target=\"_self\">LSU<\/a> offensive line.<\/p>\n<p>The other standout tests are at <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/collegefootball\/category\/sec\/texas-longhorns\/\" target=\"_self\">Texas<\/a> (October 24), <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/collegefootball\/category\/sec\/georgia-bulldogs\/\" target=\"_self\">Georgia<\/a> (November 7), and at <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/collegefootball\/category\/sec\/oklahoma-sooners\/\" target=\"_self\">Oklahoma<\/a> (November 14).<\/p>\n<p>The full schedule <a href=\"https:\/\/fbschedules.com\/2026-ole-miss-football-schedule\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Will Echoles 2027 NFL Draft Projection<\/h3>\n<p>Echoles is a scheme-diverse prospect who fits the current<a href=\"https:\/\/nflfootballjournal.blogspot.com\/2021\/10\/one-one-and-half-and-two-gapsa.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> gap-and-a-half trend<\/a> in the NFL.\u00a0 He has enough initial quickness to also fit one-gap systems.<\/p>\n<p>His strength and ability to shed blockers demand double teams, which frees up linebackers and box\/nickel safeties.<\/p>\n<p>He projects as a better version of Alfred Collins, who was the 43<sup>rd<\/sup> overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.\u00a0 Echoles offers more as a pass rusher than Collins coming out of Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Main Photo: [Petre Thomas] &#8211; Imagn Images<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Will Echoles 2027 NFL Draft Early Scouting Report.
