After trading away Myles Garrett<\/a> earlier this offseason, the latest Cleveland Browns trade rumors suggest they might not be done yet and could move safety Grant Delpit. The Browns haven’t been afraid of unloading talent, including letting TE David Njoku<\/a> walk in free agency. They also lost OL Joel Bitonio to retirement, and now CB Denzel Ward has been connected in trade rumors as well. If the Browns want to embrace another young movement, they should be moving Delpit<\/a> to a team that is well-positioned to win a championship.<\/p>\n

Entering the final year of his original three-year, $36M contract, he signed, the Browns will need to extend him before the 2026 season. Obviously, the safety has the leverage in this situation. Last season, the former second-round pick finished the 2025 campaign with 48 solo tackles, three sacks, and one interception. It’s not the most illustrious numbers, but in 2024, he hauled in a total of 111 combined tackles (72 solo), one pass deflection, and one sack while starting in the 16 games he appeared in.<\/p>\n

When will his next contract come<\/a>? That is the biggest question the Browns have to address this offseason. While he isn’t going to get a new deal in the market alongside Derwin James or Kyle Hamilton, he should be receiving a decent raise.<\/p>\n

Will This Be Delpit’s Final Year?<\/h3>\n

It’s very possible the Browns could allow the safety to play out his entire 2026 campaign. It’s been reported that the team is really high on Ronnie Hickman and with Emmanuel McNeil-Warren<\/a> coming in the mix, is there any room for the former LSU product? While he hasn’t missed mandatory practice, there could be a holdout on the verge come next month.<\/p>\n

The chances of the safety holding out for a new deal are very likely. If he feels that the Browns are tanking, what would be the use of him staying on a roster where it’s being rebuilt?<\/p>\n

Trade Market Value<\/h3>\n

Delpit is probably one of the most underappreciated safeties in today’s league. He’s versatile and makes every effort to make an impact. Typically, in the NFL, safeties don’t get a huge market, so it’d be hard to envision if teams will be interested and willing to give up more than a third-round pick.<\/p>\n

Kansas City Chiefs<\/h4>\n

After losing Bryan Cook, Trent McDuffie<\/a> and Jaylen Watson all in one offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs are overhauling their secondary room. While they got CB L’Jarius Sneed back<\/a>, they need another starting safety to pair with free agent acquisition Alohi Gilman. Chamarri Conner is solid, but it’s time to put this Kansas City secondary in the best spot to win the aerial attack against opposing receivers.<\/p>\n

With a depleted offense for QB Patrick Mahomes, the last hope they probably have is the ground game and turning the ball over to put Mahomes in the best field position. It doesn’t mean Delpit will make an explosive impact, but he’s an underrated asset that’s ready to explode on a championship roster.<\/p>\n

Philadelphia Eagles<\/h4>\n

Unfortunately, the Philadelphia Eagles lost several key defenders this offseason, including Reed Blankenship, who was a decent depth piece to stabilize this secondary room. However, the team signed Marcus Epps to a one-year deal to save this secondary somehow. He’s listed as a starter, but the chances that he starts are slim. Cooper DeJean will likely get more reps, but they could sneak in a trade for Delpit as they did with Jonathan Greenard<\/a> after they lost Jaelan Phillips.<\/p>\n

Chicago Bears<\/h4>\n

Similar to what happened in Kansas City, the Bears had to recalibrate their secondary unit, too. Jaquan Brisker and Nahshon Wright’s departures were the biggest hits for the Bears. However, they did a good job, drafting Dillon Thieneman<\/a> and re-signing Cam Lewis for depth. The Bears also signed former Super Bowl champion Coby Bryant from Seattle.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n
