LaNorris Sellers’ 2027 NFL Draft stock is one of the more interesting players heading into this season. South Carolina<\/a> has been up and down as a program in recent years. The Gamecocks won nine games in 2024 and nearly made the College Football Playoff. Entering 2025, they were expected to be a dark horse in the SEC. Instead, South Carolina regressed to 4-8, not even sniffing bowl season. The Gamecocks’ results reflect on the performance of Sellers.<\/p>\n

Sellers came out of nowhere in 2024 and looked like one of the top signal-callers in the country. His production declined sharply in 2025, hurting his draft stock. Sellers returns to Columbia in a key year for both him and the program. He has all the tools of an elite quarterback, but can he put everything together and be a first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft?<\/p>\n

Sellers was a three-star recruit coming out of South Florence (South Carolina) and the 34th-ranked quarterback prospect in the Class of 2023<\/a>. He chose to stay in the Palmetto State and committed to South Carolina. Sellers redshirted the 2023 season with Spencer Rattler, who now plays for the New Orleans Saints<\/a> firmly established as the starter. He made the most of his limited playing time, completing all four of his pass attempts for 86 yards and two touchdowns. Sellers also flashed his athleticism on a 36-yard touchdown run against Vanderbilt<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He took over under center in 2024, leading the Gamecocks on a late-season surge. Sellers completed 65.6% of his passes for 2,534 yards, 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He added 674 yards and seven touchdowns on 166 carries on the ground as a redshirt freshman. His breakout campaign led to him getting hyped as the potential first-overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. That would not be the case, as Sellers struggled in 2025.<\/p>\n

His completion percentage dropped to 60.8 while having 2,437 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 12 games. He also declined as a runner, having 270 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 149 attempts.<\/p>\n

The first thing that jumps out with Sellers is his impressive frame, measuring at 6-foot-3 and 238 pounds. His size allows him to withstand hits, which is important given his play style. Sellers is an incredible athlete and a true dual-threat playmaker. He has a rare combination of speed, physicality and agility, which makes him an elite rushing threat.<\/p>\n

His arm talent is also elite, as he generates tons of velocity on his throws. Sellers is great at hitting deep passes and making NFL-caliber throws into tight windows. He also throws well on the run and can maintain his velocity off-platform. While Sellers’ accuracy can be remarkable, it’s hit-and-miss. He misses layups far too often and relies too much on pure velocity on throws where it’s not needed. Improving at leveling his throws is the biggest step towards improving his accuracy. Sellers can also get better at working through progressions and not getting locked in on his first read. He has struggled with ball security, fumbling 17 times through his first two seasons<\/a>. He can play too aggressively at times, leading to brutal interceptions.<\/p>\n

There may not be a more boom-or-bust prospect in the 2027 NFL Draft than Sellers. His combination of size, arm strength and mobility gives him the highest ceiling of any quarterback in his class. The inconsistent accuracy, ball-security concerns and struggles working through progressions also give him a very low floor.<\/p>\n

Quarterbacks coming out of college with immense physical talent, but serious flaws in their game produce the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, who both face a lot of pressure this season,<\/a> developed the weaker parts of their game and had the traits to become MVPs.<\/p>\n
