The New York Jets appear to have an established plan<\/a> around veteran quarterback Geno Smith<\/a> in 2026. While the speculation about potential quarterback additions is a certainty every offseason and especially this time of year, the organization has repeatedly expressed confidence in their quarterback as he continues to grow in Jets’ head coach Aaron Glenn’s program<\/a>.\u00a0During Tuesday’s mandatory minicamp press conference<\/a>, the Jets head coach was asked about the strides that Smith has taken this spring to impress him. The first-year head coach was eager to share what Smith had accomplished in the program throughout the offseason.<\/p>\n

Jets’ Head Coach Praises Geno Smith’s Leadership<\/h2>\n

“Everything that I spoke about before, his leadership, his command of the offense. And I would say more than just the leadership on offense, just how he operates in the locker room. <\/em>I’m excited to have that player, and you can see the maturity in him. You can see how he’s grown over the years. And he’s really rubbing off on a lot of the guys here. So, I’m excited what he brings to the table.”<\/em><\/p>\n

These words from Glenn suggest that Smith’s value is about more than just what he will do on the football field on Sundays. Leadership, command of the offense, and what he brings to the locker room are all qualities that coaches are looking for in franchise quarterbacks, and if nothing else, Smith is bringing a veteran presence to an organization ready to turn the corner. The fact that the Jets head coach singled out Smith’s maturity and the effect that he has had on his teammates is what is to be expected out of any successful quarterback’s career.<\/p>\n
