The latest Jalen Hurts trade rumors could intensify after the 2026 season if he doesn’t live up to the new expectations of the overhauled offense. After finally trading WR AJ Brown<\/a> to the New England Patriots, rumors have been circulating<\/a> about the future of the Super Bowl-winning QB. NFL Insider Jason La Canfora<\/a> made a bombshell prediction that the Eagles could trade for Baltimore Ravens back-to-back MVP QB Lamar Jackson if Hurts doesn’t improve during the 2026 season. With that, it leaves the current Eagles QB on the back burner, waiting for an opportunity with a new team, but he still has the leverage in his current deal.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the Eagles are still looking to upgrade at QB after this season,\u201d\u00a0La Canfora wrote.\u00a0<\/a>\u201cI could see Howie Roseman inserting himself into this Lamar situation in a big deal. If Jackson isn\u2019t extended by Week 1, they will be hanging a huge \u2018Call Us About Our Quarterback After The Season\u2019 sign on the front of their franchise.\u201d<\/p>\n

It’s easy to assume that Hurts is in hot water after a disappointing 2025 season that ended with a first-round exit loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Originally selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the former Oklahoma product has been under scrutiny for being “uncoachable”<\/a> from earlier reports. It’s hard to envision the team moving on, but with a new offensive coordinator, Sean Mannion, anything is entirely possible.<\/p>\n

The Fall of AJ Brown<\/h3>\n

Despite rumors from anonymous sources criticizing the QB, Patriots WR AJ Brown didn’t mince words regarding his play. Following his departure from Philadelphia, Brown claimed<\/a> that they weren’t “as close as they were before” and “grew apart.” It’s very telling of what that could mean for the future of this Eagles offense and if Hurts is truly the answer at the QB position overall despite trading for Dontayvion Wicks and drafting Makai Lemon<\/a> in this year’s draft to help him.<\/p>\n

However, many shouldn’t be shocked if the Eagles do move in a different direction. Another source believes that the organization could make one of the most shocking things since Doug Pederson was fired a couple of years ago after he guided the team to a Super Bowl win.<\/p>\n

“Dude, you know Howie,” one unnamed general manager told NFL insider Jason La Canfora of SportsBoom US<\/a>\u00a0for an article published on Monday. “He\u2019s not sentimental. Look what they did with [former head coach Doug Pederson]. They are keeping their options open for next year (2027). This is it for Hurts there if he doesn\u2019t step up.”<\/p>\n

Is This the End of An Era?<\/h3>\n

It sure feels that way with the latest moves the Eagles made this offseason before trading Brown. Other than the trade acquisition of Wicks and the draft of Lemon, they also signed veteran WR Marquise Brown to a one-year deal<\/a>. If they were truly rebuilding, they’d probably already drafted a high-stakes RB to replace Saquon Barkley, who also hasn’t looked the same since the Super Bowl win during the 2024 season.<\/p>\n

However, don’t be surprised if the rebuild comes in the next two years, and that’s when Hurts’ contract will be almost over, and he will be near 30 years old at that time. Will the Eagles extend his deal? It all depends on how the 2026 season plays out. Another anonymous source told La Canfora that the Eagles will be flexible with all options on the table:<\/p>\n

“Howie isn\u2019t just going to sit on his hands if he thinks there are better options,” one longtime personnel executive told La Canfora. “We all know that. He\u2019s going to stay as flexible as possible (at QB).”<\/p>\n

Can Lamar Jackson Save Philadelphia?<\/h3>\n

While La Canfora believes Jackson may join the Eagles in 2027<\/a> in an aggressive move made by GM Howie Roseman, it is possible, given the situation in Baltimore. Jackson has the power in his current deal to choose where he wants to go if he doesn’t feel valued with the Ravens. Baltimore failed to negotiate a long-term adjustment in his current deal that probably would have made him the highest-paid QB.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the Ravens were too late, so the Eagles replacing Hurts with Jackson seems likely, depending on how much draft capital the team is willing to give up for the Ravens QB. It’s difficult to swallow the reality that Jackson could be in a weary situation where he joins the “dark side” of Philadelphia, but if Jesse Minter’s<\/a> new team isn’t on the same page as the MVP this season, all options remain on the table.<\/p>\n

However, can Jackson truly save this organization? Most likely not. The Eagles already had their issues with Hurts in some moments throughout his tenure, but their explosive defense did the majority of the work. This isn’t to take anything from the QB, but it’s still a team effort.<\/p>\n
