In this article, the Colts’ quarterback room will be broken down ahead of the team’s training camp in July.

Grading the Indianapolis Colts Quarterback Room Ahead of Training Camp

Daniel Jones

Jones is the main piece of the Colts’ quarterback room. He was signed by the Colts in March of 2025 to a two-year deal worth $88 million, after spending part of the 2024 season as a New York Giant, throwing for 2,070 yards and eight touchdowns to seven interceptions, before being waived and joining the Minnesota Vikings. In the off-season in 2025, Jones won the starting job in training camp. At the start of the regular season, the Colts did great with Jones at the helm, winning six of their first eight games. Jones had the Colts as one of the top teams in the NFL at the time. In Week 14, Jones tore his Achilles tendon in their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, ending their season. Jones threw for 3,101 yards and 19 touchdowns to eight interceptions. His QBR was 63.0, which ranked eighth last year. Jones signed a contract extension this offseason and seems to be in Indianapolis for the long haul. Jones can throw the ball well and also run. It is believed that he’ll be ready to go in Week 1.

Anthony Richardson

Anthony Richardson was drafted by the Colts in 2023 with the fourth overall pick. In his rookie season, he had 577 passing yards and three touchdowns, with one interception. He also rushed for 136 yards and four touchdowns. Richardson dealt with injury in his rookie season, such as having to undergo shoulder surgery, and 2024 wasn’t much better as he threw for 1,814 yards and eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He did injure his oblique and back. Richardson was the subject of trade rumors, but he remains a part of the Colts’ quarterback room. Richardson can be a serviceable quarterback for Indianapolis if need be. Richardson is athletic with a strong arm, but needs to improve on different things from a quarterback perspective, like processing from the pocket.

Riley Leonard

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBlDWG2QPh" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4213px; aspect-ratio: 4213/2809;" ></smartframe-embed>

The Colts drafted Riley Leonard out of Notre Dame with the 189th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Leonard appeared in five games in his rookie season last year, throwing for 415 yards and two touchdowns and three interceptions, while also rushing for 27 yards and two touchdowns. Leonard is sort of a dual-threat quarterback as well, showcasing this talent at Notre Dame and in the NFL. Leonard is competing for the #2 spot behind Jones.

With the current Colts’ quarterback room, it is a bit unproven outside of Jones. Jones is a solid starter, but outside of that, it’s a bit unknown how good the Colts’ quarterback room actually is. So for that, their grade is a C-

Other Quarterbacks the Colts Could Go After

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Tanner McKee has been listed as a potential target that the Colts could trade for. Trading for McKee could improve their QB room, but it is yet to be determined. They also signed veteran quarterback Easton Stick, who was last on the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad.

Main Image: Mykal McEldowney/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

The Indianapolis Colts have been in their off-season workouts, OTAs, and such.
