As first reported by the San Francisco Chronicle<\/a> yesterday, former San Francisco 49ers<\/a> player Aldon Smith had died. In the report, the team did not disclose what caused his death and put out the following statement following the death of Smith.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are devastated by the sudden and tragic passing of Aldon Smith,\u201d the 49ers said in a statement. \u201cAldon\u2019s undeniable talent and sheer dominance on the field were on display from the moment he joined our organization, having recorded one of the best rookie seasons the National Football League has seen. Beyond his excellence as a player, Aldon will be remembered for his infectious smile that lit up every room he walked into.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
