It’s very likely he came back for one last ride to be with head coach Mike McCarthy, but it gives him the opportunity to further solidify himself as one of the game’s all-time greats.

Rodgers now has the opportunity this season to add two more achievements to his Hall of Fame career in his 22nd season of professional football.

Steelers Quarterback Could Move Futher Into Elite Territory in 2 Categories This Season

Passing Yards

Rodgers is currently fifth all-time with 66,274 passing yards behind Tom Brady, former New Orleans Saints teammate Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and former teammate Brett Favre. He is also ahead of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who is hoping to push for one more Super Bowl title, by approximately 1,700 yards.

Currently, the Steelers quarterback is 5,564 yards behind Favre for fourth-most in league history. In order to pass his old teammate, he would need to set a personal best for passing yards in his final season in the NFL and average 328 passing yards per game.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOB8hg2sJkq" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 6240px; aspect-ratio: 6240/3512;" ></smartframe-embed>

That feat isn’t impossible, but the odds of achieving it are extremely low. However, what is more likely is the possibility of becoming the fifth quarterback in league history to reach 70,000 passing yards. That would put him in the same category as the four aforementioned names and serves as a much more attainable goal for Rodgers.

For him to reach 70,000 career passing yards, Rodgers would need a total of 3,726 yards — an average of 220 passing yards per game. With a much stronger receiving core through the additions of former Indianapolis Colts star Michael Pittman, rookie Germie Bernard and the reported plans to incorporate Darnell Washington more often, Rodgers has more weapons to throw to every week.

To put this into perspective, Rodgers averaged just over 207 yards per game for the Steelers in 16 games. A difference of 13 more yards per game could be as simple as one more completed pass.

Passing Touchdowns

The other category Rodgers can move up the leaderboard in is passing touchdowns. Currently, he has 527 passing touchdowns and sits in fourth all-time. He passed Favre last season when he threw his 509th career touchdown pass — a 13-yard strike to Metcalf in Week 2 against the New England Patriots.

In 2026, the Steelers quarterback can surpass another football legend, as he sits just 12 touchdown passes behind Manning. Rodgers has thrown at least 16 touchdown passes in every single season of his career when he has played in at least six games. He threw 24 last season in his first season in Pittsburgh.

Again, the improved receiving core for the Steelers is certainly going to help him pass up Manning in his final season. The schedule will be slightly tougher for the upcoming season after winning the AFC North in 2025, but he will also have an offensive guru calling his plays.

How quickly the offense can find a rhythm will determine how soon Rodgers moves into third place for passing touchdowns, and Pittsburgh fans are hoping it is as soon as possible. It’s unlikely the Steelers quarterback will go any higher than third, as he would need to throw 45 touchdown passes to surpass Brees.

McCarthy has proven to be aggressive with his West Coast offense, a refreshing change of pace compared to his predecessor’s philosophy. Rodgers will likely be throwing the ball farther downfield this season compared to last year and take more shots when the Steelers get the ball in the redzone.

Rodgers will get his first chance to pursue even more greatness against the Atlanta Falcons in the season opener.

Main Photo Courtesy of Charles LeClaire – Imagn Images

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has made it very clear that this season is his final year in the NFL.
