Davis Webb<\/a> played quarterback at Texas Tech and California before being drafted by the New York Giants<\/a> 87th overall in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. During his NFL career, Webb also played for the New York Jets<\/a> and the Buffalo Bills<\/a>, earning a spot on the final roster in all six years. However, this isn\u2019t his biggest accolade. Webb began his coaching career with the Denver Broncos as a quarterbacks coach in 2023 and is now the team’s new offensive coordinator. Here\u2019s what Webb said in his first official interview as the new offensive coordinator.<\/span><\/p>\n

Webb interviewed for head coaching positions but ultimately knew he wanted to stay with the Broncos\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

One thing Webb appreciates is that he learned a lot after being given opportunities to interview for head coaching positions. Still, he decided to stay in Denver due to his deep admiration for the organization as a whole.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c[It was] very much a blessing to have head coaching interviews and go through that process, learn a bunch about myself, leaning on [Sean Payton<\/a>] a lot through those interviews and his experience,\u201d Webb said. \u201cIt was a no-doubter, I didn\u2019t want to leave here. I love the players, the staff, the ownership, and our front office.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Another reason Webb stayed in Denver is that he will have resources that many first-time offensive coordinators don\u2019t have, and he also has strong chemistry with Payton.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat was one reason why I wanted to [stay] was with [Payton] here,\u201d Webb said. \u201cI trust him, he trusts me, we think very similar, I know how he wants the game to be played, it\u2019s the same offense for the most part.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Webb credits the many different coaches he\u2019s worked alongside over the years as he continues to develop as a playcaller<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Even though 2026 marks the first season Webb will have full control of playcalling abilities, it isn\u2019t his first experience doing so, as he did so in the Broncos preseason game last year against the Arizona Cardinals<\/a>, while he also didn\u2019t hesitate to shout out each notable coach who\u2019s contributed to the position he\u2019s in now.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been blessed my whole life to be around a lot of good coaches,\u201d Webb said. \u201cKliff Kingsbury<\/a>, Brian Daboll<\/a>, Ben McAdoo<\/a>, Adam Gase<\/a>, and Mike Kafka<\/a>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Payton was the last coach mentioned by the new offensive coordinator and was also the one Webb talked about the longest. He had many positive remarks about how important Payton has been in his coaching career since he joined the Broncos staff.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe best one I\u2019ve been with is upstairs, gold jacket hall of fame head coach, playcaller, culture builder,\u201d Webb said. \u201cFor the last three years, sitting next to [Payton] in every single staff meeting, every single offensive game plan meeting has rubbed off in a lot of ways.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In his first year as offensive coordinator, Webb likes observing each position that\u2019s outside of the quarterback room<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Now that Webb has been elevated to offensive coordinator, he will definitely be spending more time focusing on the quarterbacks. At the same time, he didn\u2019t hesitate to admit that he enjoys checking in and seeing what\u2019s going on with all of the other position groups within the offense.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll be in the QB room, but I like going to the other position meetings now, that\u2019s probably been my favorite part about this,\u201d Webb said. \u201cGoing into [Austin King\u2019s<\/a>] meeting rooms with the tight ends, [Lou Ayeni\u2019s<\/a>] meetings with the running backs, going with [Zach Strief<\/a>] and [Chris Morgan<\/a>] in the O-line room, [Ronald Curry<\/a>] in the receiver room, that\u2019s been the most fun for me is kind of [hearing] how guys teach and we\u2019re all speaking the same language, we\u2019re on the same page as a staff.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
