Hoping to build off a solid rookie season, the backup running back had his season end after suffering an MCL injury in a week four loss to the Miami Dolphins. Allen’s injury occurred during a fumble near the goal line that would have been his second touchdown of the season. Walking off the field of Hard Rock Stadium, the young running back was missed in the Jets offense last year.

Now, running back Braelon Allen is ready to put last year behind him. Last season, the Jets finished with a top-ten running game thanks solely to the effort of star running back Breece Hall. Throughout the offseason, the team made it a mission statement to diversify their passing game between their personnel moves & the hiring of veteran offensive coordinator Frank Reich. However, just because they will emphasize their aerial attack more this season, the running game will still be the focal point. Having a healthy Braelon Allen back will be important for New York’s offense as he’s ready to bounce back.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="17b65b9e7d04d0189d37abf8a57b170b" image-id="LBFW0wLNlIfW" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5968px; aspect-ratio: 5968/3979;" ></smartframe-embed>

Braelon Allen Is Ready to Bounce Back In 2026

After going through one of the worst seasons in franchise history in 2025, head coach Aaron Glenn is ready to wipe the slate clean as the New York Jets prepare for the 2026 season. With two new coordinators in defensive coordinator Brian Duker and offensive coordinator Frank Reich, the Jets hope the additions to the staff can lead to improvement. However, that’s only one piece of the puzzle.

Along with the coaching staff changes, general manager Darren Mougey added an adequate blend of veteran and rookie talent to the roster thus far. The offense will be led by the return of 2013 second-round pick Geno Smith under center, and the linebacker room gained a vocal leader in 2012 third-round pick DeMario Davis as both veterans return to the franchise that drafted them. The 2026 NFL Draft saw the Jets add four starters between the first 50 picks, including second overall pick edge rusher David Bailey, first-round picks tight end Kenyon Sadiq and wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr, as well as second-round pick cornerback D’Angelo Ponds.

However, to maximize their potential, the team will need a resurgence from certain players from last year’s roster. Despite their struggles, one positive from the Jets offense was their emphasis on the running game. Led by premier running back Breece Hall, the Jets tied for tenth in the league for rushing yards per game with the Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks. As talented as he is, Breece Hall is only one man. If New York wants to progress further, the return of running back Braelon Allen will be crucial for the team to maintain, or even enhance, this production.

Braelon Allen Wants To Make Up For Lost Time

In the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected University of Wisconsin running back Braelon Allen. After three years in Madison, Wisconsin, Allen filled a massive hole in the Badgers offense that was left after star Jonathan Taylor left for the NFL in 2020. From 2021 to 2023, Braelon Allen rushed for 3,494 yards on 597 carries, including back-to-back 1,200+ yard seasons in 2021 & 2022. He finished his career with 35 rushing touchdowns. Replicating that level of production in the NFL was going to be a tough task. Fortunately for Allen, his selection by the Jets allowed him to reunite with Wisconsin teammate, center Joe Tippmann.

nice to see this guy back @BraelonAllen pic.twitter.com/M0WbWQUzst

— New York Jets (@nyjets) June 5, 2026

In his first season of NFL action, Braelon Allen showed promise. Allen finished 2024 averaging 3.6 yards per carry on 92 carries for 334 yards and two rushing touchdowns. In addition, he showcased his potential as a receiver with 19 receptions on 27 targets for 148 yards, including a 12-yard touchdown catch in a week two victory over the Tennessee Titans.

Unfortunately, he never got the chance to build off his rookie season. In 2025, Braelon Allen’s season would end after four weeks, after suffering an MCL injury in a week four loss to the Miami Dolphins. Worse yet, the last carry he had in the season, Allen fumbled the ball just outside the goal line with a chance for a touchdown. At the time, he was projected to miss 8-12 weeks, which led Braelon Allen to head to the IR and end his season on the injured reserve.

Braelon Allen Outlook for 2026

After missing the last 13 weeks in 2025, Braelon Allen is looking to come back stronger than ever this season. In order to maximize their offense, the team needs more than Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall to carry the load for them. Even as they look to optimize how their downfield passing game will operate, the Jets need their running game to keep opposing linebackers modest. However, it can’t come at the price of handing the ball off to Hall every time. Despite second-year running back Isaiah Davis showing promise after taking over Allen’s carries, Braelon Allen was missed last year.

During the offseason, Braelon Alen has been aggressive in the weight room. At 6’1″, 240lbs last season, he’s up to 250 lbs and feels great while keeping his body fat percentage low. Allen has perfect size for short-yardage scenarios that require running up the A-gap. Allowing Allen to get those short-yardage scenarios frees up Breece Hall to keep his legs fresh, especially with how valuable he is as a receiver out of the backfield. If New York can have a healthy Braelon Allen paired with Isaiah Davis will make Hall’s life a lot easier.

Braelon Allen says he’s 100%, adding that he’s bigger, stronger and faster than ever. He’s 250 pounds, up from 238-240 last year, but adds that his body fat percentage is at an all-time low. Underwent knee surgery last season. #Jets pic.twitter.com/z5TaHhpa74

— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) June 10, 2026

In addition, new offensive coordinator Frank Reich should be beneficial for Allen’s return. During the final years of his tenure as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, Reich worked closely with former Wisconsin Badger turned MVP candidate Jonathan Taylor. If Reich can share what he’s learned from working with Taylor with Allen, it can be valuable advice for the ex-Wisconsin Badger. At 22-years old, Allen is still very young for a third-year veteran. If running back Braelon Allen can take advantage of the veteran presence in this offense, it can be massive for his outlook long-term.

Main Photo: [Kim Klement Neitzel] – Imagn Images

After suffering a season ending MCL injury in September, New York Jets running back Braelon Allen is ready to bounce back in 2026.

[6,34308
32296,7287,32048
post-286891","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-jets","category-injuries","tag-braelon-allen","tag-new-york-jets-roster","tag-nfl-injuries
["GET
