Once upon a time, Haden was one of the league’s best corners. However, it seems that the injury bug has bitten him one too many times, and he just isn’t the player that he used to be. In any case, the Browns desperately wanted to get rid of Haden’s contract, and they’ve done so with this move.

Wow, #Browns just released Joe Haden. After all, he likely isn’t deserving of eleven million dollars a year anymore. Reports indicate that the Browns could also be actively shopping quarterback Brock Osweiler. It seems that salary dumps are the main objective for this regime at this point in the season.

Depth at Corner

The best part about this roster move for the Browns is that they really don’t need Joe Haden anymore. Recently, Browns play by play voice Jim Donovan ranked Cleveland’s cornerbacks, and Haden could only manage to reach third place. Really, it makes sense. Behind budding breakout star Jamar Taylor and the ever-consistent Jason McCourty, Haden might have ridden the bench this year anyway. Additionally, some fans have even gone so far as to say that Haden is the fourth best corner on the roster.

If Briean Boddy-Calhoun can continue to develop, this Browns secondary should certainly be something to be feared. Jabrill Peppers looks good early, but he’ll have to keep up his consistent play. The Browns know what they have in safety Ed Reynolds, it’s just a matter of getting him healthy. Simply put (and this may come as a bit of a shock to the Dawg Pound), the Browns just didn’t need Haden anymore.
