The Los Angeles Rams<\/a> have one of the least experienced tight end groups in the NFL. And now they will need to add more depth to position following an injury.<\/p>\n

Projected back-up tight end\u00a0Temarrick Hemingway<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0suffered a broken fibula in a preseason game on Saturday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.<\/p>\n

Los Angeles Rams Tight End Temarrick Hemingway Suffered Broken Fibula<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Hemingway was carted off the field in a 21-19 loss against the to the Los Angeles Chargers.\u00a0His injury will require surgery. He is expected to miss\u00a0eight to ten weeks or three to four months<\/a>, but it depends on the results of the operation.<\/p>\n

The second-year pro was vying for a spot on the Rams roster behind tight ends\u00a0Tyler Higbee<\/a><\/strong> and 2017 second-round draft pick Gerald Everett<\/strong>. Between Hemingway, Higbee, and Everett, the trio had combined for 11 receptions in 2016.<\/p>\n

Rams head coach Sean McVay<\/strong>, who is known for developing tight ends, was\u00a0upset with a loss of a young, promising talent.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s one of those players, seen a lot of encouraging things,\u201d McVay told the Los Angeles Times.<\/a>\u00a0\u201cHe did a lot of really good things on the line of scrimmage, especially in the run game, so that\u2019s a big loss for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

The\u00a06-foot-5, 251-pound was a sixth rounder out of South Carolina State and was looked at as a project coming out of college. He is an explosive, big-bodied red zone target, who is thin and lengthly. Hemingway spent most of his rookie campaign on the sidelines for the Rams.<\/p>\n

Throughout the 2017 preseason Hemingway only has one catch for 13 yards.<\/p>\n

Now veteran tight end Cory Harkey<\/a><\/strong> is the favorite to make the roster. Harkey will get a shot to prove himself in the Rams’ final exhibition game this Thursday at Green Bay.<\/p>\n
