It seems like every other week, a new photo is leaked, a video pops up on the internet, or someone close to the duo feels the need to comment on the situation publicly.

Mike Vrabel Controversy: NFL Insiders Comment

Just last week, NFL Analyst Jim Rome commented on the Vrabel controversy and even felt that the NFL scheduled the New England Patriots for a rematch with the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks purely because of the ongoing scandal between Vrabel and Russini.

“Has a Super Bowl rematch ever meant less?” This Super Bowl rematch has nothing to do with a Super Bowl rematch and everything to do with the public fascination with the Patriots’ head coach, his personal life, and where his career goes from here. That’s what that’s about.”

Ian Rapoport Discusses NFL Insider Backlash

Jim Rome is not the only NFL Analyst to comment on the Vrabel controversy. Now, ESPN Insider Ian Rapoport has weighed in on the subject, but not about what you might think. Rapoport made it clear that he has been frustrated with readers about how the Vrabel controversy has been reported on.

During an interview on the “Breaking the Tackles” podcast, Rapoport had the following to say.

“I have been, for sure, frustrated at a lot of people talking about what they think the job of insiders is like, without actually knowing,” said Rapoport. “That’s been frustrating to me over the last month or so, but like the job is still the same. Finding out news, touching base, and talking to all parties as many as you can.”

Rapoport is not defending either side, but is defending the role of insiders who are covering the story. With social media growing by the day, insiders regularly receive instant feedback from fans and media outlets accusing them of having a personal agenda. The comment alludes to the fact that fans do not necessarily understand the inner workings of what an insider actually does.

In the past, it was easier to simply judge an inside by their accuracy. Nowadays, there is an increasing amount of tribalism. If a reporter writes something that a subsection of a fanbase disagrees with, it is easy to call them biased or establish their own personal agenda.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBBlVvkek8" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 6000px; aspect-ratio: 6000/4000;" ></smartframe-embed>

Rapoport Preaches Accuracy and Accountability

Rapoport then continued to discuss what it entails to be an insider.

“It’s confirming it, making sure that it comes out in the most accurate and truthful way possible, while also doing it as fast as possible and giving the reader or viewer whatever as much information as they can as you can. It’s being accurate, being fair, being first, and being accountable. I mean, to me, it’s all sort of the same philosophy that leads you to the same thing.”

Rapoport comes across as irritated that readers seem to think insiders just toss rumors out there instead of doing their due diligence. He appears to be pushing back against that perception by describing the reporting process itself rather than focusing on the Vrabel controversy directly.

Rapoport’s Stance on an NFL Insider’s Job

Rapoport’s comments may not completely quiet the debate surrounding the Vrabel controversy, but they did offer a revealing glimpse into how NFL insiders view their role behind the scenes.
