Smart slide at the end of run as well. <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NFLDraft?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">#NFLDraft<\/a> <a  href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/raLLtFQiDE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/raLLtFQiDE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Paul Emery (@UKDraftFan) <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UKDraftFan\/status\/2057531691153989888?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">May 21, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>This athletic ability allows him to be effective on designed bootlegs or to extend plays when there is pressure.\u00a0 There is an element of creativity with his legs in his game that translates to the NFL.<\/p>\n<p>Sorsby is excellent in the RPO game and on play-action fakes.\u00a0 He sells the fake and is then able to get the ball out quickly.\u00a0 With many teams using two or three tight end sets frequently and working the play-action pass game off of that, this ability fits this trend.<\/p>\n<p>Sorsby has excellent touch and consistently throws catchable passes.\u00a0 From his three-quarter release, he shows the ability to layer throws.\u00a0 His deep ball on \u201cin the bucket\u201d throws hit receivers in stride.\u00a0 When he has open receivers on short passes, he noticeably takes something off his passes to allow for an easier catch.<\/p>\n<p>When Sorsby is in rhythm, his release is quick.\u00a0 He can change his arm angle to get the ball out, showing creativity in doing so.\u00a0 He fits an offense that relies on a quick release and timing.\u00a0 If kept on schedule, Sorsby is an effective quarterback with good accuracy.<\/p>\n<h3>Areas to Improve<\/h3>\n<p>While Sorsby has the arm to throw down the field, these passes are generally touch passes.\u00a0 This gives cornerbacks time to recover, or a safety in over-the-top coverage to get to the sideline and make a play on the ball.\u00a0 When he\u2019s late with his processing\/release and throws such a pass, he invites turnovers.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Brendan Sorsby eyes this one too long &#8211; a little double clutch in there &#8211; and, again, more touched in with air. Paul Emery (@UKDraftFan) <a  href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UKDraftFan\/status\/2057533241289003174?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">May 21, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>When he has pressure, his eyes do come down to the rush, and he turns into a runner quickly.\u00a0 He will need to show more in the way of using his legs to pass.<\/p>\n<p>While he looks comfortable throwing from different arm angles, and this helps him create at times, too many passes get batted at the line as a result (see interception vs Utah).\u00a0 This sideline release also prevents him from being able to layer throws consistently.\u00a0 His release point from his three-quarter release can also be inconsistent, and he will drag down some throws.\u00a0 These turn into short hops to his receivers.<\/p>\n<p>From muddy pockets, Sorsby struggles to really generate any snap from his hips.\u00a0 At times, he\u2019ll throw and take a little step back.\u00a0 No quarterback likes pressure, but Sorsby must be better in these situations.<\/p>\n<p>He shows flashes of NFL processing, but generally, the Cincinnati offense asked him to make one or two reads and then run.\u00a0 Overall, his processing needs to be faster.\u00a0 A year at Texas Tech, if granted by the NCAA, would most certainly be beneficial for him in this area.<\/p>\n<p>While Sorsby\u2019s accuracy is good when on time, when the pocket is muddy, it does suffer.\u00a0 He\u2019s also still developing in terms of being able to throw receivers open as his offense in Cincinnati didn\u2019t require this of him.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Brendan Sorsby | 2025 Highlights\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3ZQcHKiCDkw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Brendan Sorsby Supplemental Draft: The Impact of his Gambling Addiction<\/h3>\n<p>Sorsby has admitted to placing thousands of bets online and, in late April, took part in a <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/story\/_\/id\/48608889\/texas-tech-qb-brendan-sorsby-enter-gambling-addiction-program-sources-say\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">residential gambling addiction treatment program<\/a>.\u00a0 Some of those bets were small bets placed on Indiana when he was there, and that, from an NCAA sanction standpoint, is extremely serious.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, Sorsby is filing an injunction against the NCAA that would grant him eligibility to play for Texas Tech in 2026.\u00a0 He has requested that the hearing is held before the deadline to declare for the supplemental draft.\u00a0 The date for the <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/story\/_\/id\/48808162\/texas-tech-brendan-sorsby-files-injunction-seeks-eligibility\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">initial hearing<\/a> is set for June 1.<\/p>\n<p>A deep-rooted addiction of any kind is unlikely to go away after one residential program.\u00a0 It\u2019s likely Sorsby will battle it his whole life.\u00a0 His NFL team will therefore need to support him throughout his career.\u00a0 For a potential face of a franchise, this will give NFL teams food for thought.\u00a0 Should he lapse, the NFL is likely to punish him heavily, and it could leave his team without its starting quarterback.<\/p>\n<p>Every NFL team has a different view of any off the field red flag.\u00a0 It\u2019s likely that some risk-averse teams will not be willing to place a bid for Sorsby.<\/p>\n<h3>Brendan Sorsby Supplemental Draft Key Dates<\/h3>\n<p>Sorsby must declare for the supplemental draft before the application deadline of June 22.\u00a0 The NFL would then have to decide whether or not to approve the application.\u00a0 There is no date for the supplemental draft, but if it takes place, it will be in late July.\u00a0 This will give NFL teams time to conduct a full background investigation.\u00a0 NFL teams would then bid for Sorsby in a weighted lottery, with the highest bid winning.<\/p>\n<p>The full process and rules are detailed <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/nfl-supplemental-draft-rules-how-it-works\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Brendan Sorsby Supplemental Draft Projection<\/h3>\n<p>The tape shows a quarterback who would be perfect for a Shanahan tree offensive scheme.\u00a0 Sorsby\u2019s mobility and ability to get the ball out with different arm angles are perfect for this offense.<\/p>\n<p>Sorsby\u2019s processing is not on the level of <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2026\/05\/13\/49ers-quarterback-brock-purdy\/\" target=\"_self\">Brock Purdy coming out of Iowa State<\/a>.\u00a0 It&#8217;s possible he won\u2019t appeal to offenses that like to push down the field means he is more of a third\/fourth round talent, with upside.\u00a0 He\u2019s a step down from <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2026\/04\/23\/carson-beck-2026-nfl-draft-profile-2\/\" target=\"_self\">Arizona Cardinals second-round pick Carson Beck<\/a>, who showed quicker processing.<\/p>\n<p>The severity of his gambling addiction makes a projection difficult, as NFL teams will need to consider the risk\/reward equation in his selection.\u00a0 A day three bid would seem the most likely outcome.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Brendan Sorsby\u2019s status for the 2026 college season is up in the air, and all roads are currently pointing to the supplemental draft.\u00a0 How high of a 2027 draft pick will NFL teams be willing to invest?
