He had the Chiefs trading for Pitts:

“Kansas City Chiefs: Kyle Pitts, TE, Atlanta Falcons

Travis Kelce is on the outs, and the guy after him is either going to be a rookie, Noah Gray, or Jared Wiley. None of those choices are great, especially for an offense that has spent the last eight years being defined by the quarterback’s connection with the tight end. Trading for a guy like Kyle Pitts would not only give them a tight end of the future (Pitts is only 25 years old), but it would also give them another pass catcher this year.”

Pitts would be a great addition to the Chiefs’ roster. But will the team actually pursue him?

Kyle Pitts Listed as a Trade Target for the Chiefs

Looking Back at His Career

Kyle Pitts played three seasons with the Florida Gators. During his final year, he caught 43 passes for 770 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was also a unanimous All-American and won the John Mackey Award, which is presented to the nation’s most outstanding tight end.

The Falcons selected Pitts fourth overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. He became the highest-drafted tight end in NFL history. Gaining 1,026 yards on 68 receptions, he was named to the Pro Bowl as a rookie.

Pitts hasn’t made the Pro Bowl since then. Yet, he has still put together a decent, but not spectacular career in Atlanta. Last season, he caught 88 passes for 928 yards, and five touchdowns.

Pitts was instrumental in a 29-28 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, recording 11 receptions, 166 yards, and three touchdowns. He became just the first tight end in NFL history to reach at least 150 yards and three touchdowns in a game since Shannon Sharpe in 1996. Only five tight ends have reached those totals in a game since 1970: Pitts, Sharpe, Kellen Winslow (1983), Todd Christensen (1983) and Rich Caster (1972).

Should the Chiefs Trade for Kyle Pitts?

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="a61405551f80e72f675225f083759bb9" image-id="fwuQ5UXZ325k" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2383px; aspect-ratio: 2383/3574;" ></smartframe-embed>

There was speculation that Travis Kelce was going to retire, but the future Hall of Famer decided to return to Kansas City for the 2026 season. Without a doubt, Kelce is one of the greatest tight ends of all time. The seven-time All-Pro selection has recorded 13,002 yards, 1,080 receptions, and 85 touchdowns during his illustrious career in Kansas City. And oh yeah, he also has three Super Bowl rings.

Sure, Kelce is a legend, but he’s 36 years old and heading into his 14th season. Like Beckman pointed out, Kyle Pitts is only 25, and could provide the Chiefs with a tight end of the future and another talented pass-catcher in 2026.

The Chiefs missed the playoffs last season for the first time in 14 years. Fortunately for them, superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes will return after tearing his ACL last season.

Plus, Kansas City signed running back Kenneth Walker III earlier this offseason. Walker, of course, helped lead the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory as he was named MVP of the game.

Add in a top-notch tight end like Pitts to the mix and the Chiefs would have the dynamic offense needed to make a deep playoff run in 2026. It’s unclear, though, what the team would have to give up in a trade.
