Originally selected with the 14th-overall pick, the Georgia product spent the past few seasons protecting an ever-changing group of quarterbacks. However, while he never lost his starting job, he never played up to his draft capital. Jones finished the 2025 season with a 57.7 PFF grade, the 66th-best mark out of 84 tackles, and has never recorded a PFF grade north of 58.7.

PFF grades aren’t everything, but the Steelers organization clearly agrees with their evaluation of Broderick Jones. Pittsburgh declined the fifth-year option on his contract, and it’s safe to assume he will join a new team after the season. However, if the Steelers want to maximize their return for his services, they could look to trade him in the coming weeks. Jones is no superstar, but there simply aren’t enough good offensive tackles to go around. If made available, one of the following three teams could make a move for his services.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBPc7Lv2yv" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5489px; aspect-ratio: 5489/3659;" ></smartframe-embed>

Steelers Could Trade Brockerick Jones After Declining Fifth-Year Option

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers learned the hard way just how important offensive tackle depth can be. On paper, the team entered the season with two of the game’s best tackles in Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt. However, both players suffered injuries early in the season, and the Chargers ended the year with the NFL’s worst offensive line. Broderick Jones is not good enough to start over Slater or Alt, but the former Steelers first-round pick would be an ideal swing tackle. Given Slater’s extensive injury history, this team should ensure they have a competent tackle ready to go should injury strike.

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers have a massive question mark at the left tackle position. While Zach Tom has proven himself beyond a shadow of a doubt, nobody knows what the future holds for 2024 first-round pick Jordan Morgan. Despite his high draft capital, he has yet to do much of anything at the NFL level. After all, he missed his entire rookie season to injury and lost the starting job last year to Rasheed Walker. Perhaps he can finally live up to his first-round draft capital, but it wouldn’t hurt to take Broderick Jones from the Steelers just in case he’s not ready for a starting job. Tackle is one of the game’s most important positions, and the Packers must have somebody competent to protect Jordan Love.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have one of the league’s top interior offensive lines, but the tackle position leaves something to be desired. 2025 first-round pick Josh Simmons played reasonably well last year and has earned the right to retain the left tackle position, but right tackle could use some work. With Jawaan Taylor released, the Chiefs are placing their faith in veteran Jaylon Moore. Moore is an above-average backup who can play both tackle positions, but he’s nobody’s definition of an ideal starter. Broderick Jones might not be a perfect option either, but the Steelers tackle could bring some much-needed competition to this room. With Patrick Mahomes returning from an ACL injury, this team needs all the offensive line help it can get.

The Pittsburgh Steelers could trade offensive tackle Broderick Jones after declining the fifth-year option in his contract

<smartframe-embed customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBBrR8jVmQ" style="width: 100%;max-width: 4709px;aspect-ratio: 4709/3617"></smartframe-embed>
[36,9
9714,7642,7811,7708
post-281710","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-news","category-steelers","tag-broderick-jones","tag-chargers-featured","tag-chiefs-featured","tag-pittsburgh-steelers-roster
["GET
