Let\u2019s take a closer look at the selection of Taylen Green and what it may mean for the future of the Cleveland quarterback room.<\/p>\n

Cleveland Browns: Taylen Green Provides Much-Needed Insurance<\/h2>\n

The Questions at Quarterback<\/h3>\n

It\u2019s obvious that the biggest question mark for the Browns\u2019 offense remains at quarterback. Deshaun Watson has the injury history, cap hit, and off-field baggage that make him a player most fans would rather see off the roster. Shedeur Sanders<\/a> has yet-to-be-realized potential but may have a ceiling that sits below franchise-passer level. Dillon Gabriel<\/a> doesn\u2019t appear to be a fit for Monken and may be off the roster by kickoff of Week 1.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s where the drafting of Taylen Green comes in. No, this isn\u2019t just another \u201cdepth piece\u201d conversation. This is more about what it could suggest over the next two years. Green will be the first quarterback added to the room with Todd Monken<\/a> already at the helm. While that may not seem like a big deal, it is definitely more than nothing. Taylen will be the one quarterback in that room who will have the odds tilting in his favor to remain a Brown if the team pulls the trigger on a new passer in the first round of 2027.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s an extremely low-cost insurance policy against the unknown future at the position. Be honest\u2014would you rather the Browns not have anything on the roster that could provide some continuity at quarterback?<\/p>\n

To be sure, there is a lot of work Green has to do before he is guaranteed any kind of roster spot going forward. He wouldn\u2019t be the first player to come into the league with a dynamic athletic profile at quarterback that simply couldn\u2019t translate. But there is enough upside here that projecting him as part of the roster for his rookie contract seems more than fair. The core idea is this: simply having him in the quarterback room gives the Browns a familiar face within the offense in case they have to make drastic changes at the position again in 2027.<\/p>\n

The Cleveland Browns obviously aren\u2019t championship contenders yet. Until they answer the most important question on offense, the best move forward is to stockpile talent and upgrade the starters in preparation.
