In an April 26 interview with Maria Taylor, he broke his silence on why he decided to resign.<\/a> There were two primary reasons why he decided to call it quits. But what were they?<\/span><\/p>\n

Mike Tomlin admitted that the team’s inability to advance in the postseason in recent years weighed on him. He never had a losing season. But the Steelers had not won a play-off game since the 2016 campaign.<\/span><\/p>\n

He felt that the organization, including Pro Bowlers Cam Heyward<\/a> and T.J. Watt,<\/a> deserved the excitement and optimism that comes with a fresh start and new leadership.<\/span><\/p>\n

In one of the biggest media shakeups for 2026, he is officially joining NBC\u2019s Football Night in America. The official announcement was made on April 26, 2026. Tomlin will serve as a primary studio analyst. He is essentially filling in for Hall of Famer Tony Dungy<\/a>, who has been with the network since 2009.<\/span><\/p>\n

Expanding the Roster<\/h3>\n
