He is coming off a career season where he recorded 16.5 sacks in 2025. He remains one of the elite speed-rushers in the NFL.

Abdul Carter was the third overall pick in 2026. He is essentially a ‘Micah Parsons’ clone. He is quick and capable of taking over a game from the edge or a linebacker. Carter is one of the young players that all analysts should look out for.

Reese is the newest addition. He is a 6 ‘4 physical specimen from Ohio State. He can play inside, outside, or drop into coverage and cause havoc there.

‘New York Minute’ Speed

Secondly, the biggest factor is the speed of the defense. The NFC East is where defenses have to chase around passers like Jalen Hurts and Jayden Daniels. Having three players who can all run is a massive advantage.

On third downs, defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson can pull all three on the field at once. He could also have Burns and Carter on the edges with Reese blitzing through. Offensive lines would not know who to double-team. As a result, someone will be free to sack the quarterback.

Coverage Flexibility

Unlike traditional edge rushers, Reese and Carter are comfortable in space. This allows the Giants to disguise blitzes perfectly. One could fake a rush and drop into a passing lane. The other two come from unexpected angles. Being a hybrid from Ohio State, Reese can line up in multiple positions. He does the most of his damage blitzing opposing offensive linemen. He also can succeed in stopping the run.

Life after Dexter Lawrence

Finally, Pro Bowler Dexter Lawrence traded to the Cincinnati Bengals. Thus, the pressure is on these three to create havoc. Unfortunately, they will lack the gravity in the middle to eat double teams. Opposing running backs will have more opportunity to run the football. As a result, they will have to rely on their lateral movement and stunt schemes to get to the quarterback.

Reflection

If Reese can get it quick with the offense as Carter did, the Giants could have a top five pass-rushing unit. The secondary will also benefit immensely from the shortened ‘time-to-throw’ that this trio will force.

The only concern is their interior run defense without Lawrence dominating the middle. But if they are playing in front, this trio will be a nightmare for opposing offensive coordinators.

The New York Giants selected hybrid defensive player Arvell Reese in the 2026 NFL Draft.
