The Oakland Raiders<\/strong> have released fullback Marcel Reece. Reece had just returned from a four game suspension that began late last season. In eight years with the team, Reece amassed 2,859 total yards and 15 touchdowns.<\/p>\n

Over the last three seasons, Reece’s productivity decreased annually, and the writing may have been on the wall before the suspension. Between Reece’s age, and the increased production<\/a> of Jamize Olawale, the team’s other fullback, it was time to go.<\/p>\n

An incredibly versatile player, Marcel Reece never lived up to the hype. Despite being good at many things, he was never great at anything. He was good as a change of pace back, but was never a consistent enough rusher to steal the job from the likes of Darren McFadden. He was too bulky to play wide receiver, but he wasn’t necessarily big enough to play tight end.<\/p>\n

Reece is 31 years old, and will likely be able to find a home on a team looking for a veteran rusher or receiver on offense.<\/p>\n

The move saves the Raiders a little bit of cap space moving forward, which they’ll need to re-sign the likes of Derek Carr<\/a>, Khalil Mack<\/a>, and Amari Cooper.<\/p>\n
