That includes starters or backups who play meaningful minutes. Day two may also provide players who can fill holes or strengthen the roster.

The Rams Reinforce on Day 2

The Rams’ first-round pick was met with mixed reactions. Ty Simpson’s selection signals that the Rams are preparing for football without Matthew Stafford. After Stafford retires, Simpson, with enough reps and experience, could take over.

The Rams have no pressing needs, but using their second and third round picks on players who can strengthen the roster is the ideal approach. Injuries can be the untimely downfall of teams with Super Bowl aspirations. The Rams selected two players to strengthen their offensive game plan.

Second Round Pick (61st)

In the second round, the Rams selected Max Klare. Klare is a 6-foot-4, 246-pound tight end from Ohio State. He is a natural route runner who thrives in zone defense. Klare has adequate speed and can stretch the field, making him a target at any time. He fits perfectly into head coach Sean McVay’s offense as a pass-catching tight end and can thrive in an offensively led team.

Klare is also great at yards after the catch and can quickly accelerate into noticeably higher speeds. As a blocker, he is sufficient but still needs to improve at the second level.

Last year, the Rams ran 13 personnel 31% of the time – leading the league, with the Steelers next at 18%. The Rams have transitioned into a tight-end-heavy offense with Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, and a few other wide receivers in the mix.

Klare will be a participant in the offense with a limited role as the fourth-string tight end. The Rams currently have three tight ends on the roster – Colby Parkinson, Tyler Higbee, and Terrance Ferguson. Parkinson is a free agent in 2027, and Klare’s selection almost guarantee’s Parkison’s free agent departure.

Third Round Pick (93rd)

In the third round, the Rams selected Keagen Trost. Trost is a 6-foot-4, 311-pound offensive lineman from the University of Missouri. Trost was a seventh-year senior who didn’t play the first two years of his collegiate career. He also transferred schools four times, going from Morgan State to Indiana State in 2020, then to Wake Forest in 2024, and later to Missouri in 2025.

Trost has 42 starts in college, and it shows on film. He is a great fit for the run blocking schemes and has a broad and solid frame. He stays centered through his blocking and has great hands. Trost is also great at shifting his weight around and has some fluidity to his movements.

The lineman will be a backup with the potential to develop into a starter. While he needs time to develop, he has the talent to turn his selection into a long NFL career. Trost has experience playing left and right tackle in college, but is currently listed as second in the depth chart at right guard behind Kevin Dotson. The retirement of 11-year veteran Rob Havenstein made it necessary for the Rams to draft an offensive lineman, and Trost can fill that need. Draft experts consider him a solid option, especially if he is given time to develop.

The Rams drafted a tight end and an offensive lineman on day 2 of the draft to strengthen the team.
