They focused heavily on defensive stability and replenishing the offensive line. Since Chicago was picking much later in the draft than in previous seasons, the strategy shifted significantly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Chicago Bears 2026 Draft Grades: Invasion of the Bears&#8217; Den<\/h2>\n<h3>First Round (25th Overall): Dillon Theineman, Safety<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Safety<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2026\/02\/18\/dillon-thieneman-2026-nfl-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_self\"> Dillon Theineman <\/a>was widely considered the steal of the first round. Most NFL scouts had him as a top-15 talent and the best safety in the class. He has elite instincts and ball-hawking ability.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Theineman can be used in a variety of ways. He can play nickel, single-high, or in the box. This addresses a massive hole after the loss of several veteran defensive backs in free agency. He is expected to start by the beginning of the regular season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Chicago Bears 2026 Draft Grade: A<\/p>\n<h3>Second Round (57th overall): Logan Jones, Center<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A polarizing pick, center<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2026\/03\/02\/logan-jones-2026-nfl-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_self\"> Logan Jones<\/a> is an athletic player from the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/collegefootball\/tag\/iowa-hawkeyes\/\" target=\"_self\"> Iowa<\/a> offensive line factory. But many scouts and journalists felt that this move was a reach. They also projected him as a third or fourth-round developmental piece.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He is a high-effort blocker with great leverage. He was a defensive tackle convert, so he is still refined in pass protection. It is definitely going to add depth due to the sudden retirement of Pro Bowl center <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4242553\/drew-dalman\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Drew Dalman.<\/a> Protecting quarterback <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2024\/02\/03\/caleb-williams-2024-nfl-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_self\">Caleb Williams i<\/a>s a must.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chicago Bears 2026 Draft Grade: C-<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Third Round (89th overall): Sam Roush, Tight End<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tight end <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2026\/04\/14\/sam-roush-2026-nfl-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_self\">Sam Roush<\/a> is a prototypical \u2018Y\u2019 tight end. He isn\u2019t the flashy receiver that <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4723086\/colston-loveland\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Colston Loveland i<\/a>s. But he is a physical blocker who can leak out for short-yardage catches. Roush has strong hands and protects against linebackers well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ryan Poles highlighted the team\u2019s high usage of two-to three-tight end sets. By getting Roush, he gets a physical presence to complement<a  href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4258595\/cole-kmet\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Cole Kmet<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chicago Bears 2026 Draft Grade: B-<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Third Round (95th overall): Zavion Thomas, Wide Receiver<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wideout <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2025-nfl-draft-profiles\/\" target=\"_self\">Zavion Thomas<\/a> is a dynamic playmaker with elite speed. He was a productive part of the LSU pipeline. He is dangerous in the open field and a high-end return specialist. The addition of Thomas adds an explosive threat and depth behind<a  href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4685278\/luther-burden-iii\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Luther Burden III <\/a>and<a  href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4431299\/rome-odunze\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Rome Odunze.<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thomas will also add insurance and a weapon in the return game, which is a historical position for the Bears.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chicago Bears 2026 Draft Grade: B<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Fourth Round (124th overall): Malik Muhammad, Cornerback<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next, the Bears traded up five spots to secure cornerback <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2026\/04\/04\/malik-muhammad-2026-nfl-draft-scouting-report\/\" target=\"_self\">Malik Muhammad<\/a>. He is a high-upside corner who ran a 4.42 at the NFL Combine. He is extremely versatile and has great length. The cornerback noted that after the draft, he can play outside or slide into the nickel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Muhammad will be working directly with Al Harris, which is a perfect developmental situation. Muhammad will provide immediate high-end depth behind<a  href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4243253\/jaylon-johnson\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Jaylon Johnson<\/a> and <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4426374\/tyrique-stevenson\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tyrique Stevenson.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chicago Bears 2026 Draft Grade: A-<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Fifth Round (166th overall): Keyshaun Elliott, Linebacker<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Linebacker <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2026\/04\/17\/2026-nfl-draft-scouting-report-keyshaun-elliott\/\" target=\"_self\">Keyshaun Elliott<\/a> is a downhill, physical tackler who was a second-team All-Big 12 selection. He is an elite run-stuffer and is an effective blitzer. He struggles a bit in deep coverage, but this \u2018thumper mentality\u2019 is exactly what the Bears like for their middle-field rotation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elliott is expected to fit on the special field unit immediately by training camp. He projects as a replacement for some of the veteran depth in the linebacker room.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chicago Bears 2026 Draft Grade: B+<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Sixth Round (213th overall): Jordan van den Berg, DL<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, the last pick the Bears picked was a defensive lineman. Pass rusher <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2026\/04\/23\/last-word-on-nfls-complete-list-of-2026-nfl-draft-profiles\/\" target=\"_self\">Jordan van den Berg<\/a> is a high-motor interior lineman who was first-team All-ACC in 2025. He has a unique background, having grown up playing rugby in South Africa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The former lineman from Georgia Tech recorded 11 tackles for loss last season. He has a reputation for \u2018winning with leverage\u2019. His grandfather was actually a Mr. Universe competitor, and that raw strength shows up on tape.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He has the depth for the 3-technique spot. He\u2019s a developmental piece who will compete with Gervon Dexter Sr. for rotational snaps.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Chicago Bears 2026 Draft Grade: B<\/p>\n<h3>Reflection on the Chicago Bears&#8217; Draft Picks<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In conclusion, the overall theme for the Chicago Bears was athleticism and versatility. These were two things that were lacking in 2025. Every defensive player selected has the speed to play multiple spots.
