He committed to Penn State and played in seven games with five starts in his first season with the team. Shelton appeared in 13 games with one start in his sophomore season before earning a full-time starting position during the 2024 season. In his junior season, Shelton started all 16 games at left tackle, helping Penn State win the Fiesta Bowl and reach the College Football Playoff Semifinals. He earned All-Big Ten honorable mention honors and Academic All-Big Ten honors. He started 12 games during the 2025 season, and once again earned All-Big Ten honorable mention honors and Academic All-Big Ten honors.

Strengths:

Shelton has great athletic ability. He is quick out of his stance and has good overall movement skills. Shelton is an agile offensive lineman with tremendous lateral mobility, and he is an effective move-blocker. He has good foot quickness, takes good angles to the second level, and can adjust well in space. In pass protection, Shelton has good knee bend and can mirror pass-rushers well. Shelton is great against speed rushers, and he was very consistent in pass protection during the 2025 season, allowing just one sack during the entire season. He also does a good job at limiting penalties and recorded just one penalty in the 2025 season. Shelton has good playing experience with 34 career starts, and while a majority of his experience is at left tackle, he does have some experience at right tackle as well.

Weaknesses:

Shelton lacks great play strength. He needs to get stronger at the point of attack and is not able to consistently move defenders in the run game. Shelton also needs to do a better job at sustaining and finishing blocks. In pass protection, Shelton can struggle against powerful pass rushers, and he has inconsistent punch timing. He also tends to overset and lose against inside moves.

Potential Team Fits:

Indianapolis Colts

Los Angeles Rams

Philadelphia Eagles

San Francisco 49ers

NFL Projection:

Shelton is an experienced player who has good upside with his movement skills and athletic ability. He has good lateral agility and footwork and was consistently good in pass protection at Penn State. He also takes good angles to the second level and can adjust well in space. However, play strength is a major concern. Shelton has good upside, but will need to improve his play strength and his consistency as a run blocker and ability to sustain blocks. He fits best in a zone-heavy scheme, and can be a developmental offensive tackle who has the upside to potentially develop into a solid starter at the next level.

Prospect Grade:

Late Fourth Round/Early Fifth Round

Main Photo: Mark J.
