The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly weighing the future of WR Rashee Rice ahead of the upcoming season, which may lead to a trade before the campaign begins. The NFL Draft is here, but things can shake up massively as the Chiefs hold the No. 9 pick of this year’s draft. While they’re projected to select Mansoor Delane to make up for the losses of CB’s Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson<\/a>, another prospect to keep an eye on for the Chiefs is Carnell Tate. If he’s still available, the team could likely take him, which could mark the end of Rice’s tenure with the team.<\/p>\n

Per ESPN’s Matt Miller<\/a>, a source told him the Chiefs are hesistant of giving Rice a new contract due to his off-field conduct. With Rice entering the final year of his deal, it’s understandable why the Chiefs would be willing to dangle him on the trade block. He’s coming off an offseason where he was involved in a domestic dispute, which was closed, but it wasn’t too long before the receiver was suspended for six games last season for a separate off-field issue.<\/p>\n

Despite the troubles, the receiver hauled in 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns, but missed the rest of the season due to concussion symptoms.<\/p>\n

Could the Chiefs keep him for one more season? Yes. However, it shouldn’t be surprising if the Chiefs decide to make him available. With Rice being in multiple legal issues, it also shouldn’t be a shock if he doesn’t receive interest. The receiver might be better off competing with Tate for the starting job behind Xavier Worthy<\/a>, but the Chiefs do need another receiver after losing Marquise Brown in free agency.<\/p>\n

This will be the former second-round pick’s last chance to possibly explode in this offense. The Chiefs could keep him until right before the trade deadline this year, so the team feels good about whoever they drafted or signed to upgrade the pass-attack for Patrick Mahomes<\/a>.
