It would seem that other NFL teams expect the Lions to take a tackle at pick 17, and are hoping to beat them to the punch. According to multiple reports, several teams could be looking to jump the Detroit Lions in the 2026 NFL Draft.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Todd McShay and Ian Rapoport Are Both Reporting Similar Intel<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NFL Draft expert <a  href=\"https:\/\/mcshay-report.beehiiv.com\/p\/draft-week-intel-the-latest-on-bailey-vs-reese-love-s-market-the-giants-plan-a-potential-cowboys-tra?utm_source=mcshay-report.beehiiv.com&amp;utm_medium=newsletter&amp;utm_campaign=draft-week-intel-the-latest-on-bailey-vs-reese-love-s-market-the-giants-plan-a-potential-cowboys-trade-and-more&amp;_bhlid=d95efbc0fdf4791296e3b258e99a9be29a34f07a\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Todd McShay has stated,<\/a> \u201cNo team has done more work on the offensive tackle\u201d than the Lions. If McShay knows this, you can be sure every other team knows it as well. McShay goes on to say that the two teams picking directly in front of Detroit, the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/category\/nfl-teams\/buccaneers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Tampa Bay Buccaneers<\/a> and <\/span><span><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/category\/nfl-teams\/jets\/\" target=\"_self\">New York Jets<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, have already been fielding calls from teams looking to leapfrog the Lions on Thursday night.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McShay goes even further, speculating that as many as nine (!) teams could be interested in jumping Detroit for a tackle. He lists Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco, Houston, Kansas City, New England, Cleveland, and Miami as all possibilities to make an \u201caggressive move up the board Thursday night.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ian Rapoport, one of the NFL\u2019s top insiders, <a  href=\"https:\/\/mcshay-report.beehiiv.com\/p\/draft-week-intel-the-latest-on-bailey-vs-reese-love-s-market-the-giants-plan-a-potential-cowboys-tra?utm_source=mcshay-report.beehiiv.com&amp;utm_medium=newsletter&amp;utm_campaign=draft-week-intel-the-latest-on-bailey-vs-reese-love-s-market-the-giants-plan-a-potential-cowboys-trade-and-more&amp;_bhlid=d95efbc0fdf4791296e3b258e99a9be29a34f07a\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported almost the same<\/a> on an episode of \u201cThe Insiders.\u201d Though only specifically mentioning San Francisco, Philadelphia, and Carolina, Rapoport suggests many other teams could be on the hunt for a tackle.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Which Teams Are Most Likely To Make A Move?<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1<strong>.<\/strong> Philadelphia Eagles\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Currently holding pick 23, the<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/category\/nfl-teams\/eagles\/\" target=\"_self\">Philadelphia Eagles<\/a><\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are the team to be most worried about. Their star right tackle, Lane Johnson, will turn 36 on May 8. After a significant Lisfranc foot injury sidelined Johnson for the second half of the 2025 season, there was plenty of speculation that he could call it a career.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Johnson put those rumors to rest when he announced he would return for his 14th season. However, the Eagles could look to f<a  href=\"https:\/\/www.bleedinggreennation.com\/philadelphia-eagles-analysis\/173969\/eagles-mailbag-is-there-a-lane-johnson-replacement-in-the-nfl-draft\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ind his successor<\/a> this year, especially in a draft with such a deep tackle class. San Francisco 49ers<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 49ers own the 27th pick, meaning it would cost a hefty price to move ahead of Detroit. With Trent Williams already 37, his illustrious career is nearing its end. Though Williams recently signed a two-year, $50 million extension, the Niners could be <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.bleedinggreennation.com\/philadelphia-eagles-analysis\/173969\/eagles-mailbag-is-there-a-lane-johnson-replacement-in-the-nfl-draft\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">looking to secure their LT of the future.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Top prospects like <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2026\/01\/29\/kaydn-proctor-2026-nfl-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_self\">Kadyn Proctor<\/a><span>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2026\/01\/23\/monroe-freeling-2026-nfl-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_self\">Monroe Freeling<\/a>, <\/span>\u00a0or <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2026\/02\/11\/caleb-lomu-2026-nfl-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_self\">Caleb Lomu.<\/a>, all of whom have been heavily linked to the Lions, could entice SF to make a big move.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3. Pittsburgh Steelers<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/category\/nfl-teams\/steelers\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Pittsburgh Steelers <\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are picking 21st on Thursday night, but have plenty of ammunition should they choose to move ahead of Detroit. With 12 total picks, the Steelers are expected to be active throughout the entire draft.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I have <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2026\/04\/12\/olaivavega-ioane-2026-nfl-draft-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Vega Ioane<\/a>, the top guard in this class, going to Pittsburgh in both of <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2026\/04\/19\/pittsburgh-steelers-2026-7-round-mock-draft-2-0\/\" target=\"_self\">my Steelers mocks.<\/a> There is a good chance that Ioane will be long gone before Detroit is on the clock at pick 17. If so, Pittsburgh could turn its attention to finding an upgrade at left tackle. Former first-round pick Broderick Jones has disappointed so far in Pittsburgh. Jones is <a  href=\"https:\/\/steelersnow.com\/steelers-get-concerning-update-on-broderick-jones-injury\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">not expected<\/a> to have his fifth-year option exercised by the Steelers, and could be entering his final year in Pittsburgh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also possible that Vega Ioane is still available as the Lions\u2019 pick nears, and it wouldn\u2019t shock anyone if Brad Holmes, sticking to his \u201cbest player available\u201d strategy, took Ioane over a tackle. Pittsburgh could see the Lions as competition for its top target and look to jump ahead of Detroit.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Final Thoughts<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Could all of this noise force Brad Holmes to trade up Thursday night? It wouldn\u2019t be surprising. Of course, all of these rumors could end with nothing happening. Even if a team trades ahead of Detroit and drafts a tackle, there is no guarantee it will be the tackle the Lions are hoping for. If Holmes is looking for a tackle, luckily, there are many good ones to choose from.
