This past weekend, the New York Giants parted ways with a three-time Pro Bowler. The team sent Dexter Lawrence<\/a> to the Cincinnati Bengals<\/a> in exchange for the 10th pick in the 2026 NFL draft. Lawrence requested a trade from New York on April 6, and the team found him a new home less than two weeks later. Now, the Giants have two picks inside the top ten.<\/p>\n

Recently, Ian Rappoprt of the NFL Network reported that the Giants have received trade calls<\/a> for another defender on their roster. He noted the offers have been centered around edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux. He was the fifth overall pick by New York in the 2022 NFL draft. Rapoport mentioned it is “unlikely” the Giants trade Thibodeaux ahead of Thursday’s NFL draft.<\/p>\n

What has Kayvon Thibodeaux accomplished in four professional seasons?<\/h3>\n

The Giants used the fifth pick in the 2022 NFL draft to select Thibodeaux out of Oregon. He has started all 53 games he’s appeared in for New York. During his 2025 campaign, Thibodeaux played just 10 of the team’s 17 games. Unfortunately, he was dealing with a lingering shoulder injury and was forced to miss the final four games of the season. Ten games played and two and a half sacks were both career lows for the 25-year-old.<\/p>\n

Just once in four seasons has Thibodeaux finished with double-digit sacks. He had 11.5 in 2023 when he started all 17 regular-season games for the Giants. For how high he was selected in the draft, Thibodeaux’s career has been underwhelming. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported New York has received trade calls for Thibodeaux over the last few months.<\/p>\n

Despite interest around the league, the Giants plan to keep Thibodeaux through the NFL draft<\/h3>\n

Dan Duggan of The Athletic shared valuable insight into what the Giants may be thinking. He mentioned that trade offers might be lower than New York anticipated<\/a>. He said the team doesn’t want to part ways with Thibodeaux for a Day 3 pick. Duggan referenced that a trade at the 2026 deadline would be beneficial for the Giants.<\/p>\n

He believes the team could get a Day 3 pick, if not better for Thibodeaux, if he stays healthy in 2026. The young edge rusher has missed at least five games in each of his last two seasons. Duggan also mentioned that New York could be in consideration for a compensatory pick. This is when additional draft picks are awarded to teams that lose more or better compensatory free agents than they signed in the previous offseason. For now, insiders believe Thibodeaux will remain with the Giants. However, the team could be wowed by a trade offer ahead of the draft, much like they were when offered the 10th overall pick in 2026 for Dexter Lawrence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
