The Los Angeles Rams currently own seven picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. It’ll be interesting to see who they\u2019ll take. Blaine Grisak<\/a> of Sports Illustrated came up with a list of five prospects the team shouldn\u2019t<\/em> take. One of the players on that list is Penn State quarterback Drew Allar.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c2. QB Drew Allar, Penn State<\/strong><\/p>\n

Many will put Ty Simpson<\/a> here, but the Alabama quarterback actually fits the McVay offense well. He\u2019s Kirk Cousins<\/a> with a mix of Baker Mayfield<\/a>. Allar meanwhile, is not much of a fit and has too many question marks. When it comes to Allar, all of the physical tools are there. He has the arm strength and can hit all levels of the field. However, he\u2019s never consistently been able to put it together. Even prior to the injury last year at Penn State, Allar simply wasn\u2019t very good. He hadn\u2019t taken the step forward that many were hoping for and expecting. Allar would likely be a Day 3 pick, but the Rams would be better off with Stetson Bennett as their QB3 or drafting Cade Klubnik<\/a> or Garrett Nussmeier<\/a>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Rams could use quarterback depth. But should Drew Allar be the guy?<\/p>\n

Drew Allar Listed as a Prospect the Los Angeles Rams Should Avoid in the 2026 NFL Draft<\/h2>\n

His Career Thus Far<\/h3>\n

Drew Allar attended Medina High School, located in Medina, Ohio. During his senior year, he passed<\/span> for 4,444 yards and 48 touchdowns with seven interceptions. He also rushed for 406 yards and nine scores. As a result, he was <\/span>named<\/a> Ohio Mr. Football.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Allar then committed to Penn State. Serving as a backup during his freshman year, he passed for 344 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 52 yards and a touchdown.<\/p>\n

Allar became a starter the following season. That year, he threw for 2,631 yards and 25 touchdowns. He also rushed for 206 yards and four touchdowns.<\/p>\n

2024 would be the best season of Allar\u2019s career. He recorded 3,327 passing yards and 24 touchdowns while rushing for 302 yards and six scores. More importantly, he helped lead the Nittany Lions to a 13-3 record, including a 31-14 Fiesta Bowl win over Boise State.<\/a><\/p>\n

Allar entered the 2025 season as one of the top quarterback prospects in the country. However, a season-ending ankle injury limited him to just six games and ended his college career.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Should the Rams Avoid Allar?<\/h3>\n

With Matthew Stafford<\/a> in the mix, the Rams have one of the NFL\u2019s best quarterbacks. The former No. 1 overall pick has put together an impressive career. He led the Rams to a victory in Super Bowl LVI, and ranks in the top 10 of all time in pass attempts, pass completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns. <\/span><\/sup>And oh yeah, Stafford won<\/a> his first NFL MVP award last season, passing for 4,707 yards and a career-high 46 touchdowns.<\/p>\n

Yes, Stafford is an elite signal-caller. But at 38 years old, he’s likely not going to be in the league a lot longer. With that said, the Rams need a quarterback of the future who can sit and learn from Stafford.<\/p>\n

Grisak is right, though. The Rams shouldn\u2019t draft Allar. While he has a lot of potential, there are injury concerns and he didn’t play well before getting hurt, as Grisak mentioned.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
