Typically, these players don’t get selected in Round 1 because they won’t be matching up with premier wide receiver talent on the outside in the NFL. This makes sense, as the best wideouts in football, such as Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, all played the majority of their snaps out wide. However, those players can still make an impact in the slot, along with the league’s slot specialists such as Amon-Ra St. Brown and Ladd McConkey. This makes the nickel position much more important than often perceived. Perhaps the best of this bunch in the 2026 class is Arizona’s Treydan Stukes. Stukes is currently the CB14 on the LWOS Big Board and sits at 103rd overall.

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOB6xgyzknl" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3840px; aspect-ratio: 3840/2560;" ></smartframe-embed>

Measurements*

Height: 6’1″

Weight: 190

Arm Length: 31 6/8″

Hand Size: 8 4/8″

*All confirmed at the NFL Scouting Combine

Player Background

Treydan Stukes has one of the coolest stories in the entire draft. He attended high school in Litchfield Park, Arizona. He was recruited by smaller schools such as Northern Arizona, Grand Canyon, and Montana for track and field. However, he decided to go to Arizona and major in General Studies – Sports & Society. He played football in high school, but was a 0-star recruit coming out. Once he got to Arizona, he walked on to the football team, and the rest was history. As a true freshman in 2020, he only appeared in 3 games and redshirted (COVID year). In 2021, he started to get some starting reps as he started 5 out of the 12 games he appeared in. This rate increased slightly in 2022 as he started 7 of the 11 games he appeared in.

Then came 2023, the biggest year of Stukes’ career to date. Stukes became a team captain and started all 12 games. He racked up 47 tackles, 1 interception, and 3 pass break-ups. For his play, Stukes was an honorable mention to the All-Pac-12 as well as a nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy. This trophy is given to the best walk-on player in the nation. Unfortunately, though, Stukes’ highest high was followed by his lowest low, as he tore his ACL just 4 games into the 2024 campaign. This didn’t stop Treydan, though, who had made his name to that point off of fighting through adversity. He came back with a vengeance in 2025, tallying 34 tackles, 2 sacks, 4 interceptions, and 6 pass break-ups in his best season as a Wildcat. He made multiple All-Big 12 teams as well as multiple All-American teams.

Finally, the last part of note is that Stukes was quite the academic as well. He maintained a 4.0 throughout high school and also made the honor roll three different times at Arizona.

Strengths

Great size, especially if he plays NCB in the NFL – would match up very well against premier slot talent

Elite athleticism showed up at the combine and on the field (4.33 speed)

Great at playing downhill, consistently disrupts screen plays

Instincts, play recognition, and processing in zone coverage are top-notch

Great ball skills (7 int, 21 pbu)

Weaknesses

Still only shortly removed from a major injury (ACL tear in 2024)

Will be 24 during his rookie season

Plays too tall too often in coverage, and as a tackler

Angles in the run game could use work

Man coverage is a weakness for him – struggled against players with high twitch off the line

Draft Capital Projection: Early Day 2

Team Fits: New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns

Player Comparison: Dax Hill

Last Word on Treydan Stukes in the 2026 NFL Draft

Treydan Stukes, had he not been a six-year senior that also suffered a major injury in 2024, could have really been in the first round conversation as a nickel cornerback. Especially in this draft, a draft in which positional value seems to be further out the window than ever. Stukes possesses elite zone coverage skills that will help to raise the floor of a pass defense. He also happens to be an elite athlete, as seen by his combine scores. Nickel corners simply aren’t made with this blend of football IQ, size, and athleticism.

However, he must develop in his areas of weakness to make as high of an impact as possible. Firstly, he needs to shore up some things in the run game so his coordinator can keep him on the field. Then, man coverage. If he can be trusted in man coverage against premier wide receivers in the slot, then the defense can truly flow. For now, he needs to work there. His immediate impact will be at its highest in a zone-heavy scheme in which he can use his elite instincts to make plays.

Treydan Stukes is a high-upside defensive prospect at an underappreciated defensive position.
