Tall, swift of feet with a good burst for reaction, Smith has a lot of the prototype tools. Smith arrived at Arizona as a three-star recruit out of Hamilton High School and saw limited action as a true freshman in 2023 by posting a total of 24 tackles (13 solo) with one interception. As a sophomore, Genesis racked up 63 total tackles (39 solo), three interceptions, and six pass breakups. In 2025, Smith posted career highs with 77 tackles (35 solo), one interception (25 yards), eight pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.

Strengths:

Has the range to cover the entirety of the field behind the defense

Reads the quarterback and repositions with good angles

Can play nickel and run with slot receivers

Possesses an understanding of routes and can create big plays off of instinct

Natural ball-hawk with good hands at the position

Weaknesses:

Will forego sound tackling fundamentals in a rush to the ball carrier

Pursuit angles can be lost from an overaggressive demeanor

Larger receivers can manipulate him in the ground game

Projection: Round 5
Best Fits: San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings, Cincinnati Bengals

Bottom Line on Genesis Smith

Smith’s ability to contribute on SPTs will get him to stick on a roster. But if he is going to become a starter, he will have to become a better tackler. A commitment to refining his fundamentals can go a long way towards playing time. His physical attributes will have scouts and coaches willing to take a shot on him earlier in the draft than some would expect. Smith’s athletic profile is going to give him an edge in earning early reps in subpackage football.

Genesis Smith compared similar to Tyree Robinson out of Oregon, but there’s potentially more of a pro playmaker in Smith’s game. His ability to follow, track, and position relative to where the passer is looking is top-notch. And his timing on the release of the ball gives him an advantage when jumping routes. However, if he is going to be more than a subpackage deep safety, he will need to clean up poor tackling habits at the next level.

The 2026 safety class features several intriguing prospects with size and range, and Arizona’s Genesis Smith represents good Day 3 value…

<smartframe-embed customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBzWNk6DoZ" style="width: 100%;max-width: 5568px;aspect-ratio: 5568/3712"></smartframe-embed>
[1647,33760
33533,34194,2030
post-275559","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-draft","category-profiles","tag-2026-nfl-draft","tag-genesis-smith","tag-nfl-draft-profiles
["GET
