A three-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class, Corleone picked the hometown Bearcats over a host of Group of 5 programs. After redshirting his first season, Corleone broke out in 2022.

In that 2022 season, Corleone appeared in 11 games and amassed 45 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. That year, he earned All-AAC honors for his play as the top nose tackle in the conference.

Despite the move to the Big 12 in 2023, Corleone’s play continued at a high level. In 12 games in the Power 4, “The Godfather” added 39 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, one pass breakup, and one forced fumble. In his first season in the new conference, Corleone earned second-team All-Big 12 honors.

Then, Corleone was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism at the end of June 2024. He had blood clots in both of his lungs. However, he was cleared to play in September for the 2024 season. As a result, he had another solid campaign with 26 tackles, five tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks. He was honored with a first-team All-Big 12 selection.

In 2025, his play took a dip, however. In 10 games, Corleone only managed 13 tackles.

Strengths

Imposing frame

Great play strength

Can collapse the pocket with a bull rush

More athletic than most nose tackles

Hard to be moved even by double teams

Contact balance in traffic is impressive

Weaknesses

Production fell year after year

Pass rush is just a bull rush

Knee issue in 2022, blood clots in 2024, ankle injury in 2025

Short arms

Conditioning will be key with him

Projection: Fourth/Fifth Round
Best Fits: Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers

Bottom Line

When he broke out for Cincinnati in 2022, it looked like Corleone was going to be a force for years to come. And, for the most part, he was. He repeated that success in 2023 before blood clot issues. Even then, that 2024 season was impressive, so what happened in 2025?

Corleone is a bona fide nose tackle and can be a legitimate rotational piece who could carve out his own niche on an NFL team. He’s not a go-to pass-rushing monster from the interior, but he isn’t inept. He has the strength to cause chaos from the interior and is an incredibly difficult body to move in the run game.

The question will be how his body continues to stand up. Blood clots – pulmonary embolisms, especially – are nothing to mess around with. Corleone could be a steal on Day 3 of the draft. As a nose tackle, it’s hard to take the league by storm. Corleone looked like he had what it took to do so, so whether or not he’s able to get back to his pre-blood clot days will be the key.

Dontay Corleone was a monster early on in his career at Cincinnati.
