The 33-year-old was a member of the Tennessee Titans in 2025. Allen has experience working with Giants quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Brian Callahan. Throughout his six-year NFL career, Allen has been known for his high football IQ. He’ll serve as a key backup for New York.

Brandon Allen Will Join the New York Giants Roster in 2026

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOB5bn8S2eA" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2550px; aspect-ratio: 2550/3399;" ></smartframe-embed>

Where has Brandon Allen played in his NFL career?

With a sixth-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected Brandon Allen out of Arkansas. However, Allen never appeared in a real game for Jacksonville. He was a member of their practice squad in 2016. In 2017, he was claimed off waivers and signed with the Los Angeles Rams practice squad. Allen served as the third-string quarterback behind Jared Goff and Sean Mannion.

Ahead of 2019, the Denver Broncos signed Allen to be the backup behind Joe Flacco. When Flacco was not available, Allen made his first career start on November 3, 2019, and won that game. As a member of the Broncos, Allen was 1-2 in three starts. From 2020 to 2022, Allen was a depth piece at QB for the Cincinnati Bengals. Of his 19 appearances in the NFL, 12 came with Cincinnati, including six starts. Most recently, Allen served as Tennessee’s backup quarterback in 2025. He appeared in one game.

New York has a clear pecking order at QB in 2026

Jaxson Dart is the unquestioned starter for the New York Giants in 2026. Despite a 4-8 record in 12 starts as a rookie, Dart proved he has the makings of a franchise player. With another offseason of work and preparation under his belt, the young quarterback is expected to leap in year two. Jameis Winston will serve as the primary backup for Dart in 2026. He signed a two-year deal with New York ahead of the 2025 season.

Winston appeared in three games and made two starts for the Giants last season. He was 0-2 in two starts, but New York was competitive on offense in both games. The journeyman quarterback will enter his 12th professional season. Additionally, the Giants have added Brandon Allen to the roster. NFL analysts have noted the team could still sign an undrafted free agent quarterback to the roster after the draft. Allen might find himself on New York’s practice squad come 2026. At the bare minimum, Allen is a depth piece for the Giants at quarterback.

Main Image: Corey Perrine/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

In 2025, the New York Giants had three quarterbacks on the roster.
