At his peak, the former third-round pick was one of the most dangerous dual-threat weapons in football and was in the discussion for the best all-around running back in football. However, age has taken a toll on the veteran, as he looked like he lost a step last year while handling starting duties for the Saints.

With Tyler Shough looking like a franchise quarterback down the stretch, New Orleans has the opportunity to win the division in 2026. With this in mind, the team spent big on free agent running back Travis Etienne, and it’s hard to imagine New Orleans keeping another high-priced running back in Kamara on the roster. While he may not be the player he was, Ralph Vacciano of Fox Sports believes the Denver Broncos could be interested in his services.

“Kamara is 31, coming off the worst season of his career, and coming back from knee and ankle injuries,” Vacciano writes. “He also doesn’t want to leave New Orleans. But a reunion with Sean Payton and a chance to chase another championship in what could be his final NFL season might be enough to convince him to change his mind.”

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBiol6gqm9" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2453px; aspect-ratio: 2453/1635;" ></smartframe-embed>

Saints, Broncos Connected In Alvin Kamara Trade Rumors

Vacciano believes the Saints could only get a seventh-round pick in 2026 and 2027 for Alvin Kamara, but the Saints would still probably take that trade. Kamara is one of the best players in franchise history, but there’s a reason the NFL unofficially stands for “Not For Long.” As mentioned above, Kamara is well past his prime, struggles to stay on the field, and is currently the clear RB2 behind Etienne. Kamara currently carries a $10.45 million cap hit, but New Orleans can clear $3.37 million with a post-June 1st trade. By comparison, they’d save just $376,000 in cap space if they release him after June 1st.

The Saints wouldn’t get much of anything in an Alvin Kamara trade, but that additional salary cap space is probably enough to justify such a low return on investment. However, it takes two to tango, so would the Denver Broncos agree to this deal?

All-In Broncos

On paper, the Denver Broncos already have a good running back duo in J.K. Dobbins and R.J. Harvey. If both players stayed on the field for a full 17-game season, Denver would have no reason to trade for Alvin Kamara. However, that’s anything but a given. Dobbins has a long, extensive injury history, and the depth behind him and Harvey leave a lot to be desired. Kamara is not a starter at this stage in his career, but he could be a solid backup for a team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations.

If the Broncos take a running back in the third or fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, they probably won’t trade for Alvin Kamara. However, if they skip on the position, Sean Payton could look to reunite with his former star running back.

The New Orleans Saints could try to trade Alvin Kamara, and one writer believes the Denver Broncos could pursue his services

<smartframe-embed customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBVO4uHzFw" style="width: 100%;max-width: 3072px;aspect-ratio: 3072/2048"></smartframe-embed>
[1647,15,28,36,6431
1573,7305,7659
post-273776","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl-draft","category-broncos","category-saints","category-nfl-news","category-nfl-teams","tag-alvin-kamara","tag-denver-broncos-news","tag-saints-featured
["GET
