He hopes to bring to Tennessee the same philosophy.

Selah also plans on keeping scores low and hopes to give Cam Ward more margin for error. Additionally, he plans on installing a ‘tough and dependable’ culture that he was known for during his time in the Bay. The environment should become more stable for him.

The Brian Daboll Effect

A critical factor of the relationship is Selah’s hiring of Brian Daboll as offensive coordinator. He is leaning on him to help develop Ward. The head coach also wants him to challenge the quarterback, which he believes will sharpen his competitiveness. Although Daboll was inconsistent in New York, he will have a new chance in the Music City.

Ward has publicly stated he wants to be authentic and has embraced this new role. He loves new challenges, which goes well with a player who wants to succeed in the NFL.

Leadership and Culture

Finally, Selah has been vocal about his admiration for Ward’s off-the-field manners. During the 2024 NFL Combine, he highlighted that Ward is in the building daily. This was despite recovering from a right shoulder injury that he suffered in the season finale.

Selah was also impressed that Ward knew every staff member in the building by name. From the chefs to the janitors, this alignment is huge. By keeping a ‘people-first’ mindset, this is the leadership many are hoping to see more of as training camp arrives.

Reflection

For 2026, the success of this relationship hinges on whether Selah’s defensive structure and Daboll’s offensive tutoring can win Ward’s elite physical tools into consistent winning football. This is the potential start of something special that the Titans could be building. If this relationship works, then improvements for the franchise are right around the corner.

Main Photo: [Andrew Nelles/The Tennessean] – Imagn Images

Head coach Robert Selah and quarterback Cam Ward are equipped to upgrade the Tennessee Titans.
