It has been a career of heartbreak for quarterback Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills when postseason play arrives. Year after year, the Bills have seen themselves fall just short of reaching the Super Bowl.<\/span><\/p>\n

After a 2025 campaign that saw Allen throw for 3,665 yards and 25 touchdowns (while dealing with a foot injury that required surgery), the front office has made “all-in” moves to capitalize on his prime.<\/span><\/p>\n

So what is the plan heading into 2026?<\/span><\/p>\n

Take Advantage of the WR1 Connection<\/h3>\n

The biggest hurdle in 2025 was a receiving corps that struggled to create separation. The trade for receiver D.J. Moore<\/a> from the Chicago Bears<\/a> changes the dynamic of the offense. Allen needs to establish immediate chemistry with Moore to take the pressure off Khalil Shakir<\/a> and Dalton Kincaid.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Moore provides a veteran route-runner who can win at all three levels. It reduces the number of “hero-ball” plays that Allen tries to make into tight windows time after time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Trust in the Interior Protection<\/h3>\n

The Bills spent tons of money to ensure Allen stays upright. He took a massive beating in 2025. The team re-signed center Connor McGovern t<\/a>o a $52 million deal and then added veteran Lloyd Cushenberry III.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

With a more stable pocket, Allen can reduce the high pressure-to-sack ratio from the previous season. Better interior blocking should also boost the efficiency of running back James Cook<\/a> and Ray Davis.<\/a> This allows the Bills to maintain a balanced attack that keeps defenses from pinning their ears back. It also takes a ton of pressure off of Allen.<\/span><\/p>\n

Allow for ‘New Look’ Defense to Make Stops<\/h3>\n

In previous postseason exits, the defense often failed to get the final stop. The 2026 offseason saw the additions of pass rusher Bradley Chubb and safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson to help the defense get stops.<\/span><\/p>\n

Allen does not need to score 40 points every week. If the defense, led by a healthy Chubb and Gregory Rousseau, can create a consistent rush, Allen can play more \u2018situational\u2019 football rather than trying to be Superman.<\/span><\/p>\n

Post-Surgery Mobility<\/h3>\n

It also appears that Allen is \u2018good to go\u2019 for 2026 following his foot surgery in the offseason. His rushing ability (14 touchdowns in 2025) is his \u2018X\u2019 factor. Staying healthy throughout the regular season<\/a> so he can perform well by January will give this team a huge boost moving forward.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Bills have to beware of other teams. The Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a>, Kansas City Chiefs<\/a>, Baltimore Ravens<\/a>, Cincinnati Bengals<\/a>, and Denver Broncos<\/a> are all AFC contenders looking to also try to compete for the Super Bowl sweepstakes. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
