He <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/48154394\/sources-bears-sign-ex-seahawks-db-coby-bryant-3-year-deal\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">signed<\/a> a three-year, $40 million deal with the Chicago Bears on March 9, 2026. Bryant brings a playmaking intensity to the Bears\u2019 defense, which proved to be a liability over the course of the 2025 NFL season. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But what should the Bears expect from him?<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Ball Hawk and Field Awareness<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coby Bryant is a natural ball hawk who consistently turns targets into takeaways. In 2025, he recorded a career high of four interceptions and seven pass deflections. He reads opposing quarterbacks like a book. Whether he is underneath or playing in deep safety alignments, he has shown he can flip the field. He offers Bears defensive coordinator <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2025\/10\/15\/bears-ben-johnson-dennis-allen-saints\/\" target=\"_self\">Dennis Allen<\/a> immense flexibility. In 2025, certain defensive backs were playing in positions that they were not used to. Opposing offenses exploited the Bears for huge amounts of yardage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bryant can drop into the slot as a nickel and roam the center of the field as a free safety. He can also play near the line of scrimmage to help stop the run. While Bryant is known for his ball skills, he has an 80.9 PFF run-defense grade. This will help the Bears out tremendously.\u00a0 He quickly mastered complex defensive schemes in Seattle, allowing him to anticipate plays rather than just reacting to them.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Bringing a Playmaking Intensity<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite being roughly 193 pounds, Coby Bryant plays with a playmaking intensity that hides his own size. Coincidentally as a rookie, he tied for third in the NFL with four forced fumbles. Bryant established himself as a \u2018striker\u2019 who can dislodge the football on the point of impact.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Although the Bears have helped quarterback <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/nfl\/2025\/02\/03\/caleb-williams-bears-quarterback-dynasty-outlook\/\" target=\"_self\">Caleb Williams<\/a> on offense, they are helping him on defense too. With a defense that can shorten the field, the Bears&#8217; offense will get more opportunities.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2025 NFL season saw Bryant record 66 tackles, as he proved to be a dependable open-field tackle.
