The Denver Broncos are continuing to add to their offensive staff, and they have recently hired Kyle Kempt as an offensive assistant. It will mark Kempt’s first season coaching football professionally, but he has experience playing and coaching at the collegiate level. Here\u2019s more information on his resume leading up to him joining the Broncos.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Iowa State (2016-2018)<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Kempt is a native of Massillon, Ohio, and joined Iowa State as a walk-on to be a quarterback for the team in 2016. In his first season with Iowa State, Kempt saw action in two games.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In his second season with the Cyclones, Kempt had more playing time and threw for 1,787 yards and 15 touchdowns while completing 66.3% of passes. It was also the season where Kempt became the only quarterback in Iowa State history to lead the Cyclones to a pair of wins over top-five opponents.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During his final season with the Cyclones, Kempt was granted a sixth season of eligibility and named as the team’s co-captain. In the first game of the 2018 season, Kempt suffered a career-ending knee injury.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite not playing in the remainder of his final season, Kempt still graduated from Iowa State with degrees in Computer Science and Liberal Arts. The former quarterback also has a master\u2019s degree in family and consumer sciences – youth development, which he earned in 2022.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Iowa State (2019-2024)<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Kempt decided to remain in Ames, where he was a quality control assistant for the Cyclones, to begin his coaching career in 2019. Before the 2020 season, Kempt switched roles, serving as a graduate assistant for the offense through 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the final two seasons, Kempt switched roles once again, returning to being the team\u2019s quality control assistant while primarily serving as the quality control assistant for the offensive pass game in his final season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The former All-Big 12 quarterback helped Iowa State post a 45-32 record during his time coaching and was part of the Cyclone teams that recorded five of the school\u2019s eight winning league seasons in the Big 12 conference\u2019s 29-year history.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, Kempt was a mentor to San Francisco 49ers<\/a> quarterback Brock Purdy<\/a> and Iowa State quarterback Hunter Dekkers. Kempt contributed to Purdy owning or sharing 32 school records, while he also played a role in Dekkers completing 66.1% of his passes in his first season as a starting quarterback.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Drake (2025)<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Most recently, Kempt served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Drake Bulldogs. In his one season with Drake, Kempt coached freshman running back Nick Herman, who had 144 carries for 1,034 yards and six rushing touchdowns.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kempt will be working with Sean Payton<\/a>, Davis Webb<\/a>, Lou Ayeni, Ronald Curry<\/a>, and John Morton<\/a>.
