Jameis Winston<\/strong>\u00a0shows the ability to be a successful quarterback in the NFL<\/strong>. He\u00a0should last a long time. He is an agile quarterback who\u00a0prefers to be\u00a0a pocket passer. It will take a disaster for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers<\/strong> to give up on the potential of their first pick\u00a0in the 2015 NFL Draft<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Jameis Winston is a Streaky Quarterback<\/h2>\n

Winston showed what he could do when he’s at his best in the first game in 2016 against the Atlanta Falcons<\/strong>. The Buccaneers were in control at the Georgia Dome<\/strong> in their 31-24 victory. Winston completed 23 of 32 passes for a completion percentage of 71 percent. He threw for 281 passing yards, four touchdowns and one interception.<\/p>\n

Winston appeared as if he was\u00a0taking a stroll\u00a0while everybody\u00a0else\u00a0seemed to be\u00a0in a hurry. He delivered\u00a0the football with a smooth transition.<\/p>\n

Winston\u00a0dumped passes to running backs, including\u00a0a 23-yard touchdown pass to Charles Sims<\/a><\/strong>. He was also\u00a0successful on long passes. He\u00a0concluded a 30-yard touchdown pass to tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins<\/a><\/strong> and a 45-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Mike Evans<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0The performance earned\u00a0Winston the NFC Offensive Player of the Week<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, he followed that\u00a0up with maybe the worst game of his career against the Arizona Cardinals<\/strong>. The Buccaneers lost 40-7 in Tempe<\/strong>, Arizona<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

He looked out of sync for the entire game. He had solid pass protection from his offensive line\u00a0against a defensive front\u00a0that featured\u00a0Calais Campbell<\/a><\/strong> and Chandler Jones<\/a><\/strong>. But his talented wide receivers\u00a0struggled to get open against Patrick Peterson<\/a><\/strong> and Tyrann Mathieu<\/a><\/strong>. Winston’s throws were off\u00a0and he dealt with\u00a0tight windows all game. He completed 27 passes out of 52 attempts for a 51 percent completion percentage\u00a0and 243 passing yards. He threw one touchdown pass and four interceptions and he\u00a0lost a fumble.<\/p>\n

Fumbles were a\u00a0problem for\u00a0Winston in 2015. He fumbled six times, two of which were recovered by the opponent.<\/p>\n

Winston Will Be Worth It In Long Run<\/h3>\n

Overall, Winston’s first season in the NFL was a mixed bag. He played all 16 games and threw for 4,042 passing yards. The Buccaneers improved to 6-10 after a non-competitive 2-14\u00a0season in 2014 that subsequently led them to\u00a0take Winston in the draft.<\/p>\n

Winston was the main reason for the Buccaneers’ improvement.\u00a0He posted an approximate value of 13 according to Pro Football Reference<\/a>. That was the highest on the Buccaneers and it was tied for the eighth highest in the NFL. It was\u00a0the same number as the likes of Odell Beckham<\/a><\/strong>, A.J. Green<\/a><\/strong>, Matt Ryan<\/a><\/strong> and Matthew Stafford<\/a><\/strong>. He had two fourth quarter comebacks and three game winning drives.<\/p>\n

However, Winston threw 22 touchdowns compared to 15 interceptions, which were the fifth most in the NFL in 2015. He completed a mediocre 58 percent of his pass attempts.<\/p>\n

He seems to be at one end\u00a0of the spectrum or the other. The Buccaneers have a talented roster, but Winston\u00a0affects whether\u00a0they\u00a0win or lose.<\/p>\n

It will be\u00a0a challenge\u00a0for\u00a0Winston to be one of the five best quarterbacks in the NFL with his propensity to turn the ball over. Winston has five touchdowns and five interceptions through two games this season. The five interceptions are the most in the NFL. However,\u00a0his willingness to continue to take chances down the field makes him as dangerous as anybody.<\/p>\n

Winston compares to quarterbacks like Eli Manning<\/a><\/strong> or Joe Flacco<\/a><\/strong>. Manning and Flacco are never considered as one of the five best quarterbacks in the NFL. It is easy to overlook them\u00a0although it is dangerous to do so because they can sneak up on you and win the Super Bowl<\/strong>. Manning has done it\u00a0twice with the New York Giants<\/strong> in 2007 and 2011 and Flacco did it with the Baltimore Ravens<\/strong> in 2013.\u00a0Winston has the physical tools to\u00a0get hot in the postseason and win the Super Bowl also.<\/p>\n
