The Baltimore Ravens might trade quarterback Lamar Jackson this offseason, If so, the two-time NFL MVP could wind up with the Miami Dolphins.<\/p>\n

There were reports that Jackson wants to play<\/a> for the Dolphins. No one knows for sure if that’s true or not. But it makes sense, seeing that he grew up down in South Florida.<\/p>\n

If the Ravens do make Jackson available, it would be in the Dolphins\u2019 best interest to not pursue him this offseason.<\/p>\n

Dolphins Need to Say \u201cNo Thanks\u201d to Pursuing Lamar Jackson<\/h2>\n

Looking Back at Jackson\u2019s Career<\/h3>\n

Lamar Jackson spent three years with the Louisville Cardinals, winning the Heisman Trophy as a sophomore. He was subsequently drafted by the Baltimore Ravens<\/a> 32nd overall in 2018. During his rookie year in Baltimore, Jackson became the starting quarterback after an injury to Joe Flacco<\/a>. He guided the team to the postseason that year.<\/p>\n

Jackson was named the league\u2019s MVP the following season. He threw for 3,127 yards, 36 touchdowns, and six interceptions that year. The Florida native also rushed for 1,206 yards and seven touchdowns.<\/p>\n

In 2023, Jackson won<\/a> the second MVP of his career. He threw for 3,678 yards and 24 touchdowns while rushing for 821 yards and five scores. But more importantly, he powered the Ravens to a league-best 13-4 record.<\/p>\n

Jackson has battled injuries over the years. However, he continues to be one of the league\u2019s top quarterbacks when healthy.<\/p>\n

March 13, 2000 was one of the saddest days in Dolphins history. That was when Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino retired following 17 seasons in Miami.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately for Dolphins fans, the franchise has never found a replacement. The team has gone through 27 starting quarterbacks since Marino left.<\/p>\n

Guys like Ryan Tannehill<\/a> and Tua Tagovailoa<\/a> have shown flashes in the past, but they never proved to be the answer.<\/p>\n

Lamar Jackson is a phenomenal player. He has won two MVPs, and is the only quarterback in NFL history with multiple 1,000-yard rushing seasons.<\/p>\n

However, Jackson has struggled with injuries. Plus, he\u2019s expensive in terms of money and draft capital to land him. He is due to make over $50 million dollars in 2026 and 2027. Miami would probably have to give up two first-round picks and two second-rounders in a trade. The Dolphins needs to keep their picks and add key pieces through the draft.<\/p>\n

Perhaps Miami should build around rookie Quinn Ewers<\/a> instead. The former Texas Longhorn was drafted in the seventh round in 2025 and ultimately replaced<\/a> Tagovailoa as Miami\u2019s starter. In Week 17, Ewers became the Dolphins’ first rookie quarterback since 1983 (Marino) to throw two touchdown passes in the first half of a game. No, Ewers isn’t Marino 2.0, but he has the potential to be a respectable quarterback.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Speaking of young quarterbacks, the 2027 draft is expected to have a much-better group of signal-callers than this year\u2019s draft. With that said, the Dolphins should stick with Ewers in 2026, and look to next year\u2019s draft if he struggles mightily before then.<\/p>\n

Again, Lamar Jackson is a superstar. But the Dolphins don’t need him.<\/p>\n
