The Arizona Cardinals are in a tailspin, and quarterback Kyler Murray will probably not be with the team in 2026. Selected with the first-overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft<\/a>, the Oklahoma product looked like a legitimate franchise quarterback early in his career, winning Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and making the Pro Bowl in 2020 and 2021. Unfortunately, the wheels soon fell off the wagon, as over the past four seasons, he has been nothing more than a slightly below-average quarterback earning a franchise quarterback’s salary.<\/p>\n

ESPN: Cardinals Could Trade Kyler Murray to 1 of 3 Teams<\/h2>\n

Kyler Murray is not a franchise quarterback in the traditional sense, but the Cardinals passer is one of the 32 best players in the world at his position. While his time in Arizona is almost certainly over, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler<\/a> notes the team will try to trade him in the offseason, and he believes three teams could be interested in his services.<\/p>\n

3. Minnesota Vikings<\/h3>\n

The Minnesota Vikings have everything they need to go on a deep playoff run – except for a quarterback. Justin Jefferson is one of the game’s best receivers, Kevin O’Connell is an elite head coach, the offensive line is solid when healthy, and the defense has talented playmakers. The biggest reason they won’t play meaningful football in 2025 is because of the quarterbacks, as first-round pick J.J. McCarthy<\/a> has largely struggled, while Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer weren’t good enough to keep the team afloat.<\/p>\n

Kyler Murray is better than the early-season version of J.J. McCarthy, but the Michigan product’s recent play could prevent this trade from ever happening. It’s admittedly a small sample, but McCarthy has played up to his draft capital over the past two weeks. If he continues playing at this level, the Vikings would have no interest in trading for Kyler Murray, and the Cardinals would have to look somewhere else.<\/p>\n

2. Las Vegas Raiders<\/h3>\n

Head coach Pete Carroll and quarterback Geno Smith<\/a> were supposed to bring the long-suffering Raiders back to postseason contention. Instead, Carroll has failed to elevate the talent on the roster, while Smith has played like one of the worst quarterbacks in football. This team is going nowhere fast, and the 74-year-old Carroll doesn’t have time for a long, painful rebuild. This team must find a way to win games fast, and trading with the Cardinals for Kyler Murray might be the quickest way to turn this ship around.<\/p>\n

Murray is an upgrade on Smith, but he’s not good enough to consistently win games with a poor roster. Vegas currently has a 2-12 record and could easily end the season with the first-overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. If that happens, look for Carroll and company to invest in a young potential franchise quarterback like Alabama’s Ty Simpson<\/a> or Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza<\/a>.<\/p>\n

1. New York Jets<\/h3>\n

Just like the Raiders, the New York Jets have a terrible record and should have a high first-round pick. However, this isn’t the best quarterback class, and New York is currently 3-11. There is a decent chance all the good quarterbacks are off the board before New York can make a selection, and they have no choice but to trade a late-round pick to the Cardinals for Kyler Murray.<\/p>\n

Head coach Aaron Glenn inherited a poor roster, so nobody can blame him for failing to win games with Justin Fields under center<\/a> and no real playmakers outside of Garrett Wilson. However, this grace period won’t last forever, and he may not survive a second season like this. Kyler Murray may not bring this team to the Super Bowl, but he could keep them somewhat competitive.<\/p>\n
