Nearly one year ago, Chancellor\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxsports.com\/nfl\/story\/seahawks-kam-chancellor-reveals-what-he-learned-from-his-holdout-040316\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reflected<\/a>\u00a0on the lessons he learned from the holdout. The guaranteed money ranks seventh for the position, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/10853458\/earl-thomas-seattle-seahawks-agree-contract-extension\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$2.75 million<\/a>\u00a0less than what was guaranteed to teammate\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=ThomEa99,ThomEa00&amp;search=Earl+Thomas&amp;utm_campaign=Linker&amp;utm_source=direct&amp;utm_medium=linker-\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Earl Thomas<\/a><\/strong>. While Thomas may have more guaranteed money, Chancellor&#8217;s new money average will be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/sports\/seahawks\/report-seahawks-kam-chancellor-agrees-to-three-year-contract-extension\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$12 million a year<\/a>, which would make him the third-highest paid safety in the league. The new extension locks up a core member of the Seahawks defense, but there wasn&#8217;t always a\u00a0belief that Chancellor would remain on the team.<\/p>\n<p>In May, some thought that the Seahawks were planning to move on from Kam Chancellor after this season. The team had yet to reach a new agreement with Chancellor, and they had\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonprofootball.com\/2017\/05\/03\/seattle-seahawks-2017-nfl-draft-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">drafted<\/a>\u00a0a potential replacement in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/delano-hill-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Delano Hill<\/strong><\/a>, a strong safety at Michigan. However, things changed as the Seahawks reported to camp.<\/p>\n<p>While the 2015 camp, which featured Chancellor&#8217;s holdout, and the 2016 camp did not bring about a new deal, 2017 had a different tone. Right from the start of camp, Chancellor expressed his optimism about a new deal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/20211444\/kam-chancellor-optimistic-deal-get-done-seattle-seahawks-opener\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hopefully it\u2019ll get done any time now<\/a>,&#8221; said Kam Chancellor, via Sheil Kapadia of ESPN.com. &#8220;Both sides have been very productive working together and just waiting to see what\u2019s happening.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kam Chancellor even went as far as to express his desire to remain a Seahawk prior to the extension. &#8220;I love this team. They gave me the first opportunity, the only opportunity. And I would love to retire here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kam Chancellor was in the last year of his four-year, $28 million extension.
