Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones suffered an Achilles injury against the Jacksonville Jaguars and has already been ruled out<\/a> for the rest of the game. While the long-term implications of the injury are not yet revealed, anything involving the Achilles tends to be season-ending.<\/p>\n

Daniel Jones Injury Update: Colts QB Ruled OUT (Achilles)<\/h2>\n

This is obviously devastating for the 28-year-old, especially since he was in the midst of the best season of his career. Selected by the New York Giants in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft<\/a>, Jones signed a one-year, prove-it contract with Indianapolis during the 2025 offseason. This proved to be one of the league’s best signings, as Jones looked like one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks throughout the season. Prior to the Jacksonville game, Jones had completed 67.9% of his passes for 3,041 yards, 19 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.<\/p>\n

Assuming the Achilles injury sidelines Daniel Jones for the remainder of the season, the team will turn to rookie Riley Leonard<\/a>, at least for the time being. Selected in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Notre Dame product began his career as the third-string quarterback but earned a promotion when Anthony Richardson landed on the injured reserve. Prior to Jones going down, Leonard had appeared in just one game and had yet to complete a pass.<\/p>\n

Speaking of Richardson, the former first-round pick will not be around any time soon. The quarterback underwent surgery in October after suffering an orbital fracture and, as of this posting, has no return timeline. With the trade deadline passed, the Colts will have no choice but to ride with Leonard and potentially a free agent quarterback.<\/p>\n
